Why do people want bigger tanks?

Love It Ro GIF by Rosanna Pansino

I want all of the big fish!

I started with a 46 gallon bow front tank and almost upgraded to a 75 gallon to allow for bigger fish.
After thinking about the cost increase involved with equipment and maintenance I decided to downsize to a BioCube 29.
I have enjoyed that small “piece of the ocean” but as I grow older I have recently downsized again to a Fluval EVO 13.5.
This has allowed me to keep my few favorite Corals and fish while allowing me to upgrade the stock lighting and use my other existing equipment.
The smaller tank usually means lower equipment replacement costs and easier water changes and upkeep.
Although the stability can change quicker I feel comfortable with the expo that I have gained from the other tanks I have had and I can view as many “dream tanks” as I want on YouTube without the larger expenses or maintenance costs and requirements.
I think everyone in this hobby can find their own enjoyable comfort level and just enjoy their experiences.

Stability and space to do different things in different areas of the tank.

Wish I had space for a 12-14 footer.

The space for bigger fish is a huge draw for sure!!

Sorry if this is adjacent to the actual question, but is part of it enjoying the process itself of setting up the tank, rather than the end result? Does anyone just like starting over and building up a new system, which might as well be bigger? Or is it mostly about having the end result?

Just asking because in reading all the great build threads here, it seems like there is a lot that comes from the process itself.

The process itself and the end result are both enjoyable to a lot of people.

I think both are fun! Both the destination and journey are fun to me

All my tanks have been up a long time, my last one was just 2 months short of 10yrs.
Sometimes I did get kind of bored or just frustrated with the looks of my tank, especially if I was struggling with an issue like bubble algae. That is when I would get all my buckets out and remove a lot of rock and rescape so that it felt like a new tank. If there was bubble algae I would remove it at that time also. It was amazing how that could rejuvenate my interest in the tank.

Bigger fish...and more coral!
That is the main reason I have wanted a bigger tank, just so I can get bigger fish, haha

One of the main reasons for me wanting a big tank is, so I can keep a school of yellow tags. Reminds me of snorkeling in Hawaii. :)

For me, it’s so I can keep different types of livestock, such as sea horses, trigger fish, very aggressive corals, anemone only tank

Why do people want bigger tanks?

For me it's mostly been about more room for fish and bigger fish. I love tangs, the way they swim and variety but they need plenty of space if you want to house multiples!

Some want a bigger tank for more corals. Some as a reefing status symbol...maybe?

What do you think?
More room for error I think
