I've always loved pico tanks, but getting great variable flow patterns in them is not easy. I'm building a UNS 45L (3g long) and have an Ai Nero 3, but obviously thats too big. I wish a company would make something like the nero pumps that are programmable, but for pico tanks. Something really small that can add random flow cycles.

I don’t think they are really necessary for a tank that size. You can get enough water movement with a return pump on those tanks. However I do like your idea of a wave maker for pico tanks!

Don’t know how small the tank is but these work well

I put an mp10 on a 5. It worked great. Jabeao does make a knock off of the mo and has a small version. You could always put something in front to diffuse some of the flow. Put some rocks or even sea fans in front. They love strong flow.

You could also do a canister with a random flow nozzle. This will give some random flow. There are also options like this. https://reefcasa.com/product/reef-c...209&gbraid=0AAAAAqE9lXrs9komnxxa-b5pYckfKRamb
