Why is this happening?
I’m at a loss to what caused my prized acantho to die within a few days... I’ve had this coral for more than five years... it opened everyday like clockwork... until one day it did not inflate... which it’s done before... re-inflating in a day or so... However, this time the coral remained closed and eventually started to melt away within a few days. It was always very receptive to feeding and the day before it closed up, it was opened wide and feeding as I fed the tank. I have other meat corals and Cynarina currently in my tank and those corals seem fine. Unfortunately, this melting away has happened before to other meat corals I’ve kept over the years... the corals open and appear fine and relaxed then all of a sudden they take a turn for the worse... and these aren’t new corals, but we’ll established corals. I’m starting to think that a fish or crab or something decides to start picking at the coral, irritating and stressing it. Maybe a opening the door for a bacterial infection or something? Maybe I over fed the coral... is that posssible?

I appreciate any thoughts. Water parameters are fine.

Thank you.
