Why's my SPS dying?

Have you checked for any pest?? Like aefw, or red bugs?? Also check for monti eating nudis but they won't touch a birds nest... It could just be a coincidence "spelling" dip a coral and see if anything comes off it... Also check for eggs..

What are the sugested dipping methods/ times & solutions for all these different pests. I dont wish to steal the post but do want to learn.

too many changes on a tank that is too new
- 3 months old is barely starting
- 250 20 K to 150 14K = big change both in spectum and intensity
- ALK 7.9 to 8.6 isn't a lot but it is a change
- change in flow rate
- most of the SPS shown have very little if any encrusting which shows they are relatively recent additions

solution - remove dead corals, frag any that start to RTN, and allow time for tank to adjust to new params before adding anything new, and then acclimate slowly by starting them on the bottom and slowly moving them up

Agreed, this is one of the reasons I don't like putting sps in fresh tanks. Live and learn though, do some water changes and strive for stability. Good luck.

Not to talk tfor Dylan but the tank was set up with establish live rock and water from his other tank. The rock came from my system which is well established.
In reality it would be no different than moving a tank from one location to the other. He keeps logs of everthing that goes on with the tank, one of the most disciplined reefers I know.

Could also be the chain reaction rtn affect as well. Meaning one coral started to release chemicals in the water and the rest followed suit rtn ing. But a change in flow and light all at once is most likely the culprit to start it.

Now my tricolor valida is STNing and my Green slimer is STNing from the bottom up. Parameters are perfect. Not much of a change. Flow changed, lighting changed. I tossed everything that is bleaching or RTNing.

I'm gettin ready for a 20% water change and going to go get some carbon... any suggestions while I'm out?

how long were these in the new tank??? is it plumbed together?? there is a ton of things honestly that could of happened...most of the time none of us will ever know what really triggered it, to be honest...i don't think anyone could answer truthfully what causes rtn....:(

It's been about a month and a half since the first SPS. Two weeks since the last SPS addition. It's not plumbed with anything else.

I think I've come to a conclusion that it's a mixture of all the changes. Just my luck that my light crapped out...

I know it is easy to blame it on new lighting and flow however that is a tough sell. When we purchase corals, they go from one tank to a completly new tank with all different parameters. Like troylee said we just don't know enough about RTN/STN to pinpoint the cause. It is really frustrating and I feel you pain Dylan.

It is frustrating! Especially because I'll never know for sure what happened. But it's okay, it's only a few pieces. Live and learn. My favorite acros are still okay.

glad to hear that. im just getting into acro's and the comment on flow confused me. i thought they need strong water current? i was kinda under the impression that ,within reason, you can never have too much flow. ?
