So I got this 2in anemone less than a month ago. I was so happy it settled in a good spot and I went to check on it today and it's split? Its a rose tip. Do they usually split when they're this small or could a small calcium swing have caused a stress reaction

How old is the tank and can you post water parameters?

To answer your question they can split at any size and any time. Sometimes it’s due to chemistry swings. Or it just wanted to split. There’s no definite answer here because it could be many things. Posting parameters helps tho.

FYI I started with 1 a year ago and now I have just over 40. Check out my build thread for insight.

Survival tactic. Now the clone has 2x's the liklihood of survival. Have you been feeding it heavy? I have heard that "stress" including large meals can trigger splitting. A water change can also trigger splitting, and mobilize these nems looking for a better environment,

Nitrate 5
Po4 .1
Calcium 420
Alk 8.5 roughly
Its an acro dominated tank but it settled right under my seriatapora. Tanks 3ish months old almost. I always thought anemones would get super big and then split (which is what my old bta did) but this one split super young. I did also feed it heavily all week last week

Mine don’t get large either. My SPS are growing well but my bubble tips are splitting like wildfire. Had 1 about 2 years ago and now have 40+, I can’t count them. They are also so wedged in that I cannot remove them unless I remove the rock structures they are on.

Could possibly be from feeding. Also a 3mo old tank is a little new for an anenome. So it’s possible it’s from that as well. Other levels look good.

Its weird since ive had very consistent acro growth and color as of recently. I should probably mention that the tank was bought used with rock and sand (i just did a 200% wc) and finally has overcome some phosphate issues. I was really hoping I could keep the anemone growing since I dream of a massive colony like yours

Personally keep doing what you’re doing, growth will come and before you know it your tank will look like mine. I started with one and I now have 40+. It’s hard to count them all since they like to bunch together. I’ve had big ones split into 4 and I’ve had little ones split like yours. I never target feed mine since they are mostly photosynthetic and will catch frozen when I broadcast feed the fish. There’s no telling why they will split since it’s possible due to water conditions, over feeding or even they are happy and just want to. Keep up the good work and just keep an eye on them.
