I am starting to set up my system and bought an Apex for my controller. I do not have a cable hookup anywhere near my tank but I do have wireless in the house. What is the best way to hook it up to the network?

Thanks in advance,

Netgear WNCE2001 Universal WiFi Internet Adapter (WNCE2001-100NAS)

If you can't find that one:

NETGEAR Universal N900 Dual Band Wi-Fi to 4-Port Ethernet Adapter for Video and Gaming (WNCE4004)

If you're doing a firmware upgrade, everything I've read indicates it should be hard wired to the Apex. So if you need to do an update, I think you should run a cable temporarily to do the update. Those much smarter than me can correct me if I'm wrong.

That's correct. DO NOT attempt to do a firmware update over wireless. Get yourself a long enough run of cat 5 cable and run it through the house temporarily from the apex to your router to do the firmware update. When finished disconnect and go back to wireless.

100% correct!!!
Normally internal IP addressing scheme run 192.168.x.x address spacing, easiest way I have found (without removing the head unit) is to use a standard CAT5 or 6 cable from the head unit to say a laptop with a static IP on the ethernet port in the same VLAN (flat) as the 192.168.x.x. address space. You can leave the laptop's wifi on DHCP so you are able to connect out to the internet if need be.

I've got an Apex and an Apex jr. The jr is connected to a wnce2000, which has been very reliable. The Apex, on the other hand is connected to an wnce 3000, because the wnce 2000, does not seem to be available any more (new). Unfortunately, the wnce 3000 is not nearly as reliable as the 2000. In fact the Apex disconnects from the 3000 50 times in a day according to Fushion. Any thoughts?

I use the a Netgear extender that uses the home wiring to extend to any electric outlet .
I found the Gaming wifi extender to be a pain to operate. Also no problems with updates as this is actually wired to your Router. Sorry could not find the actual model but check with your Best Buy geek.
