Wrasse choice for a 180g.

I am about to purchase some wrasses for my 180g. I have read over many post and I am still confused. So how many flasher and fairy wrasse can I put in a 180g? Can I do multiple of each just different species? Easy question is you are stocking a 180g and want to add a large group of wrasse what would you get. I want 5-7 give or take.

Existing tank.
2 maroon clowns
Foxface
Flame angel (for now)
2 chalk baslet
1 goby

In that size tank you could probably do give or take 2-3 of the same genus. So for example a mcCoskers and a carpenter (Paracheilinus). Just make sure theres only one male.

If i wanted a large group of wrasse in the size tank i would do this:

1-2 leopards
2-3 peaceful flashers
1 cleaner
2-3 peaceful fairy’s
1 coris

Thank you this helps a lot. I will be researching this today while I have a baby! I have read the wrasse guys list. It's just hard to understand. So go through the list wrasse guy made and pick green flashers and fairies and I can mix and match or a harem. I was thinking a leopard also. I have read helicorous are meaner as they get bigger.

I'd suggest mostly fairies as you have the very infamous maroon clowns. Saying that you could easily have a combined 6 or more. I included my annotated chart to show my recommendations:

Yes I do have the infamous maroon. But she is about 5 inches 3-4 years old and host the corner of the tank and never leaves. She's cleared 3 inches of sand made it bare bottom and her and the male stay in the corner I have never seen them leave it. I almost want to try a second clown pair. But know better. And thank you I'll definitely be using this list!

I have a Canary wrasse and it has so much personality. Super peaceful and nice colors as well. Highly recommend

Get 2 juvenile leopards and they will become a pair. There will be growing pains between those 2 but it’ll work out. I did that and now have an incredible super male who gets to show off all the time. Also kept with a radiant wrasse. All play well together. Don’t forget the diminutive possum wrasse. They are very cool too !!

Yes I'm looking into leopard and radiant wrasse. I'll definitely look into 2 leopards. I'm trying to find the best place to get most in one purchase! Definitely excited for some wrasse

Hey, I have a 180g and in the same boat as you. HOWEVER, my tank is about 8 months old and is my second tank and I have had success with wrasse in my old tank and decided to go to the wall and got 1 melegaris leopard adult, and 2 small blue star wrasse.
The adult was out and eating GOOD for 4 days, went into the sand at night and on day 5 didn't come out of the sand and only seen her one last time before never again and I haven't found a body or anything... the 2 bluestars never seen them once after they went into the sand.... NOW, I was having heater controller problems and my tank went cold (66F) for 4 days before I noticed, and that did not help my situation. But also I think my tank was still a little too new.. but I only paid 150 for all three so it sucks but not the end of the world. However, going to get some not expert wrasse and work my way to the leopards.
I seen you mentioned radiant wrasse and they are BEAUTIFUL. I had an opportunity to get one and I skipped 3 months back and I still kick myself for it.
A wrasse I will have to get as my dad loves is a exquisite wrasse.

I currently have Hippo, blonde naso, vlamingi, tomini, purple, dejardini sailfin. Also have coral beauty, lemon damsel, 3 splendid anthias, 6 Clowns from same harem.

Not sure what and how many wrasse but I'm trying to figure out a roaster like you as well.

I would check with @Slocke and @i cant think about the ones above in bold. Wardley is Melanurus, I believe, which is a more active Halichoeres, but the Checkerboard (H. hortulanus) is an 11" Halichoeres that should be double checked for compatibility.

@Slocke can comment on the red coris.

I imagine a Girdled (Cirrhilabris balteatus) would be fine with a Naoko, but I wouldn't put a C. balteatus with a C. punctatus.

Angular (P. angulatus), Carpenters and McCoskers is an interesting combo. Is that because of availability/budget? I usually see the Carpenters/McCoskers/Yellowfin as very similar. If you want to mix it up, you could swap the Carpenter or McCosker for a P. cyaneus or P. lineopunctatus, both of which aren't expensive like the diamondtails or Madagascar flashers, but have striking blues when they flash.

That group looks good but guidance I've seen is long-term pairs of leopards don't tend to work out. The female might transition to male and aggression would be likely. Probably better off mixing 2 different leopard species.

Which leopards? If your getting an Ornate add it last. They can be aggressive twords other leopards. Mine almost killed the black and choati I put in. Thankfully it calmed down but it took a good 2 months.

I was going with the melegris leopard. I have thought about just doing 1 to be safe.
