Hi, I’ve had this Xenia for 2 weeks. It’s big and healthy but the longer stems are not opening. Is there something wrong or is this just they way it is? The ones close to the base open and pulse.

Can you post parameters? How old is the tank?

Sometimes they’ll do this when shocked, but usually for an hour or so.

Not abnormal. They do like moderate water flow, moderate lighting (a little heavier on blue ) and believe it or not ...... a little nitrate and nitrite. Salinity at 1.25 and temp in the 77.79 range

I have some that grew up onto a rock and are getting blasted with flow and they thrive. Moderate flow is best for viewing pleasure though. My friend just came back from a diving trip and said in the sea, they get blasted.

I once blasted and had a good growth. I changed to moderate flow (strong without blasting) and now have a jungle of xenia

Ok thanks for the reply :) I might move them to a bit higher flow and light and see how they go. Really wanting them to open!

You said the ones at the base pulsate but not at the top - could the ones at the top be getting too much light? Might be light more than flow actually.

Yep the small ones at the base are fully open and pulsing. Yeah perhaps too much light, that makes sense actually

That’s why I mentioned reduce white and add more blue
