My current light setup is 48” Aquatic Life T5 hybrid running four Blue+ bulbs and two XR30 G4 pros without diffusers on the AB+ spectrum at 100% modified *Whites, green, red max at 15%*.

With that said XR30 G4 Pros are being sold left and right for $300 thanks to the coming of the G5. I am considering adding a third XR30G4 pro and running them long ways with diffusers in addition to my T5 hybrid setup on my 120g 48x24x24 tank.

My system is SPS dominant with softies around the bottom. Do you think this will be too much and not worth it or with proper tuning and the diffusers will it be ideal? I don’t want to spend the $300 if it’s going to be a waste. I also was considering this idea in the event I ever get a larger tank I should be covered lighting wise still.

I say go for it. While it is probably overkill, you will get better spread, less shadowing, and more even coverage. Plus, as you stated, if you upgrade to a larger tank, you will already have the lights for it.

If you are running your existing at 100% then yeah, I'd say go for a third.

The G4 are more powerful than my Hydra 26s but I run 3 inside my Aquatic Life fixture on a 48" frag tank. (Only 16" deep.)

With your depth -- and eventually SPS crowding if not already -- it will help with shading. G$ Pros are awesome lights. Wave 'em in.

I have 4 xr15s on a 48" hybrid, I can't see adding more but at $300 for a xr30 I might try to squeeze another. I might scrap
the hybrid to make room for more. BTW defusers are a must.
