Yellow Tang Prices

Am I just not seeing this right or did Yellow Tang prices skyrocket? My local marine shop in New Jersey sells them for $659.99 Is that the price range today for them?

I'm with @albano on this one... Even with hawaiian lineage, I see $400 or so for a fully grown Hawaiian here in So Cal. For 650 it better poop gold.

I know nothing except my LFS has them around $150.
I did notice Dr. Reef's lists "Hawaiian" tangs at a HIGH price (out of stock) but captive bred more in-line with what I expected.

I am trying to figure out how much I can sell one for. I had it for almost 2 years so not a baby. One thing I can say is it's a very nice and vibrant yellow color, I've seen some before in other shops that were kind of pale yellow so definitely a much nicer vibrant color.

Whatever the market can bear, I'd say 300-350 if it's fully grown, HEALTHY and you want it gone.

But those white tail prices are Stoopid... I griped when they were 70-100 pre 'vid, they are 175-200 in my hood now and availability is kinda fickle.

Some of the online retailers are simply on drugs with their pricing. Makes me laugh getting an email saying Better grab these now at these prices. I open it up and they have Hepatus on sale for $299 or Chocolate tang for $219

Would aquacultured be more expensive then? Who the heck can buy on for that price? I bought all my fish from there and never had one die or to have health issues. I do have friends that paid in other shops but they had problems and fish died on them but not sure if it was quality or them not acclimating them properly.

Yikes... Not a great price. I'd put a fully grown yellow from Hawaii at around $300 - $400, but $660 sight unseen and unquarantined would be a pass for me. They used to be 30$ before the ban, basically on the level of a clownfish or gramma. It would also be super easy for them to send an aquacultured one instead, most people wouldn't know the difference. Try Dr Reef or the BIOTA website itself if you want good pricing.

$500-$600 Just sounded totally insane for me. Trying to price one and have no idea what to ask for. Bough it as a tiny one and i think that costed me around $120 almost 2 years ago.

Aquacultured is cheaper as they are readily available and baby sized. You can buy one any time you want off Biota.

The wild ones will sell for more. Even a grown out aquacultured would likely fetch less then a wild one. Just like wild percula clownfish can fetch a hefty price.

Aww heck no.

My local shop has a Beautiful and healthy 7" gem tang for $649...
