I found a yellow tip elegance coral at my LFS. From what I can tell this is a rare coral. My question is are these difficult corals to care for? I did my usual research online first, but all the information I found was several years old. The information I read was a little scary. It mentioned elegance coral syndrome, low survival rate, and some other things that made me nervous. I also didn't see anyone keeping them under LED's. I thought that this was a beautiful animal, but I will not buy something I am not qualified to care for. Finally do you think $150 for this guy is reasonable?

Thanks for any help.

Elegance are picky depends if it is aussie or indo. Aussie is the hardier of two. Never saw a yellow one. Be sure it is not bleached. I have never paid more than 60 for an elegance. But i know what area you are from matters on price

I paid $45 for a pretty nice size Aussie one. I have pics here in one of the recent posts.
I feed it maybe 1 time a week or less, It opens up and extends pretty big compared to its skeleton.
So far so good for me, its been about a month and she looks great.
Skeleton is about 3 inches and extended it is about 6 inches.

It's definitely not bleached, but I'm not sure of its origin. The piece is pretty big, but I normally wouldn't pay more than $60 for one either. The only reason I am even considering this is because I've just never seen a yellow tip one before.

How long have you had it?

I bought a pink tip elegance that was the size of a football. It looked great for a few days then it went downhill fast. I tried feeding it, lowering light and flow. It kept looking worse so I tried a peroxide dip. Nothing worked and it died and when they die they smell horrible!
