I bought my first watchman goby and pistol shrimp on Sunday, and they weren’t paired, nor purchased from the same LFS.

The goby is very small, and the pistol shrimp is a little over twice his size.

Bare with me in this part: The shrimp made a little hole in the sand bed, but the goby didn’t find the shrimp. The following day, the shrimp is in the opposite side of the tank, and the goby was in the original hole that the shrimp made.

Fast forward to today, the shrimp is still in his 2nd cave, but the goby is perched on a derasa clam. I’m pretty cute, but will they eventually find each other? Is it possible for a tiny little goby to pair with a big shrimp?

Grrk! I knew it didn’t look like a shrimp goby from live Aquaria! The LFS labeled it as prawn goby ;Facepalm I thought it looked different because it was small.

Will the Shrimp need a goby for survival?

Wrong goby, thats a clown goby which are not shrimp gobies.
Yes, this. Also I believe that particular shrimp will not pair with fish (looks like alpheus soror to me).

I don’t think so. The shrimp is a tiger pistol shrimp. Does not look like that shrimp you sent.

Always ID stuff yourself, stores can't be trusted 100%. The shrimp pictured appears to be Alpheus bellulus. It is certainly not Alpheus soror, note the lack of the characteristic blue legs.

That apostolic shrimp looks exactly like my pistol shrimp. It’s paired w a watchman goby. But yeah, I agree that’s not the goby you have. I’d get one if I was u :)
