Yellow Watchmen Gone!

Howdy,

As the title states I have not seen my yellow watchmen goby since the day I added him. He was added to a IM 30 gallon tank. Build thread in signature. You can tell that my rock doesn't offer much for him to go and hide under. I checked the floor thousands of times to make sure he didn't escape... even though I have a screened top. My ammonia has not spiked which would lead me to believe he died. I know it's common for them to disappeared but I am lost as to where he went. I am starting to think maybe he was swallowed up as he was the smallest fish in the tank... by far! I don't want to pull all my rocks to see if he's hiding but I also want to get a sifter going!

What do i do!!

have you checked the rear chambers. Same thing happened to me with my pearly jawfish. I thought the lionfish killed it. Two weeks later, found it chilling in one of the chambers. Hope you find it.

He's probably just hiding out. He show up maybe. But a yellow watchman goby. Not going to sift ur sand bed if u want something that going sift sand get a dimond watchman goby. Very nice cool to watch

Yes they do but not much at all. Well at least mine he's so tiny being a baby idk if that will have anything to do with it. But they also say to get a pistol shrimp and they might pair up. Mine hasn't yet paired with mine. But like I said I think mine is not ur normal ywmg he swims around doesn't burrow. But good luck to ya

That's about the size of mine!! Pistol shrimp can reek havock in your tank be extra careful

Turn your room lights off and dim your tank lights to about 50%. Put some food in the tank and step back from the tank about 6 feet. That's how i had to figure out if my Yellow Watchman was still alive when i first got him.

It's been probably 3/4 I'm patient but I also want to see him !

I didn't see mine for a solid week, maybe more. I looked everywhere and assumed it died. Then one day, bam, staring right at me. lol

The thing for me though, there isn't much place to hide that I can see

3 or 4 weeks? Yeah, that seems like you would have seen him by now. If you have plenty of sand, he could be living by sifting at night. I think you'd see the signs of that in the morning though. They usually hang out with their head out of their hole making sure all's right in their world during the day.

On the other side, I am always amazed by how fish can jamb themselves into tiny spaces when they want to hide. I'm sure your rock has enough crevices that he could still be hiding out somewhere...

If you end up getting another one, I'd suggest quarantine for a few weeks in a smaller tank with a few PVC pipes. That way he can get used to you and know that you are the one with the food (while in a tank where you can easily find him). It's less likely he'll disappear for long time once he goes into the display.
