Whelp. Currently sitting at 50 plus hour with no electricity. The old tank is hanging in with a rotation of battery backups. Longest power outage in my life here.

So the tank was delayed... /sigh

Chalking it up to 2020 gremlins at this point.

The basement remodel is for the most part stalled waiting on tank.

It might have not been the best idea but I decided to plumb the fishroom to the old tank. It will allow me to continue with the fishroom still and it will be firing on all cylinders when the tank does get here. In the grand scheme of things I am going to waste maybe $50 in PVC which at this point I could care less.

So... Umm... Things did not go to plan lol.

Hindsight break down of what occured. My 2500gph new Coral Box return pump was too much for the old overflow. Even at it lowest of 10 settings.

Which I was adding top off for the longer than final form PVC run.

Then wondering why the drain conversion had a slight drip....

Then adding top off.

And I walk back out of the fishroom to water overflowing the display.

1) Install the original return pump in the new sump. I had a union right over the pump no big deal.

2) Remove and replace the existing, as in "didn't leak for 3 years" flex drain with PVC hard line.

So first of the solid vinyl plank on a basement floor. 5 gallons of water flowed across the room in a nice stream, neatly through the door across the painted laundry room floor and into the houses sump.

May I never test it but the room passes with flying colors if the tank ever let's go.

So what did I get done other than disaster testing

I present to my readers the sump actually working.

Wiring of course to be redone.

But real tank water flowing through it's veins!

My entire algae rector full of cheato looks tiny in the new fuge.

Whats your plans for stocking?
This build looks awesome so far.
Fish wise. I am a big fan of the tang gang. I really want a Powder Blue or Achilles tang. A bristle tooth tang. I'd like to get some rarer stuff but will likely have to mail order them as the stores are pretty thin locally.

Coral wise. Mixed reef. I had a couple decent stick collections in the past and never had the chance to let a tank fully grown out. So this is a long term build for me. No longer renting. Due to the 5' by 3' floor space I am wanting to build a reef that takes advantage of all of that real estate. A couple islands and some negative space.

My rock will be 50/50 mature to dry rock. So I will probably stock the fish side of it first and easy my way back into the more demanding corals.

Still mostly in a holding pattern.
I hard mounted the electronics on the back wall. Then mounted shelves...that I was going to put the 4 part on until I remembered the siphon.

Moved the dosing containers under the stand.

Fighting bubbles in the dosing lines. I could not get the 3mm lines on the barbs for anything. Still got to sort it.

So the outlet box has to be right next to the hole in the wall to the right.

It doesn't splash much on its own and I've been putting a trash bag over my electronics for years during maintenance.

Guess I will see.

So I thought I would try my hand at the "super and sand" method of attaching rock I first learned about here.

IMG_20200907_135922.jpg

I ordered the official glue from Gluemasters.

Pretty amazed this isn't the defacto method of attaching rocks. Other than the $60 in super glue I am not seeing much of a downside.

This rock I made with a over hang in a few places.

This is about 80% of my dry rock. Total I have about 50/50 dry to live rock coming from the old tank. Challenge here is how I will end up incorporating live rock in the dry. I have acrylic rods and about half the glue left.
IMG_20200907_151734.jpg

Note the PVC is the size of the tank. Man $300 of rock looks small:D
