Well whatever she is, she's adorable. Leopards are by far my favorite.
Same! I have room for one more, and as soon as Hawaii gets its stuff together and I can track down a Potter's, my triad will be complete!

Yeah, they are in taxonomical limbo. Originally described (by Randall, I believe) as Macropharyngodon, but later reclassified to Haliochores due to the lack of pharangeal teeth. That being said, DNA sequencing puts them more closely related to Macropharyngodon than Haliochores, so they are generally treated as such- especially given their appearance and behavior.
Sounds like it should be in its own genus. Pseduomacropharyngodon obviously

That doesn't look like a throat tooth to you?
Apparently those are “A pair actually, of recurved canines on the posterior edge of their upper jaws” not the teeth on the pharyngeal plate.

That teaches me

Can we still call her a leopard?

Also, I don't know if other fish see those teeth when they yawn and take heed, but M. bipartitis has never been antagonized even once by the clowns.

Yes, it is absolutely considered and treated as a Leopard Wrasse.

I’d like to thank this hotel for having a tank worse than mine. Thank you for the confidence boost!

Bad news first.
I think I have decided to give up on this tank. I can’t get on top of the glass algae and my softies and LPS have been decimated. I really just don’t enjoy this tank anymore and avoid it except when feeding. I love a lot of the fish but the tank itself is so old and scratched and I just hate how much effort it takes to clean the glass.

Not to mention the loud and unreliable HOB overflow. Which also recently claimed one of my fish (found the lunatus…).

Good news.
I think I found a replacement. It’s something like 46”x24”x22” peninsula, rimless with a good sized sump and stand included. All for 2250$ at my LFS.

Yes it’s smaller but I was actually looking for even smaller and I think I may still look for a similar even smaller one but I do really like this one. I will need to find/make a lid though.

Anyway if I go through with this then it will be a SPS tank because that’s what I find easiest and of course tang dominant.

I’m still not totally sure I should replace and may still decide to go down to one tank. I’ve been really struggling with stress and have developed a jaw clenching habit. I want a tank that reduces my stress but this mess is killing me. Also I think my favorite part of a tank is the setup and aquascape.

Man, i am so sick of hob filters, canister filters, hang on overflow boxes. I have been there. My return to saltwater was a 60g with no overflow. Such a mess

Anyhow, upgraded to the 112g. Just, reefing, saltwater fish have been so much easier to maintain. When the wrasse kick up the sand, it filters quicker.

Sorry about the lunatus. Those are beautiful fish.

Getting peace of mind is so needed with what we go through.

Anyone who hasn't put their blood sweat and tears into their tanks, i dont believe a word they say. Or, maybe someone out there is just that plucking lucky.
