I’m newer to the hobby and I’m trying some only my first corals. My first zoanthids from one of the latest WWC live sales isn’t opening up. I got 2 different zoa frags from the sale and one I believe is dead but the other looks alive but not opened up. Pictured on the left is a Blues Clues Zoa and on the right is the Metallic Pink Zoa that I believe is dead. If anyone has any idea how I could make this coral happy and open up, please help me out.

How long have you had them? One I'm not seeing polyps so might be dead. If they're new, they can take a while to open after shipping. Also better flow can help them open as well as keeping them clean

I’ve had them since the beginning of May. Would it be a good idea to move a powerhead to flow over the top of them?

Where are they in the tank? and what lighting are they under? Zoas are low light corals so being on top of rockwork may be too close to the light.

I just tested my water and are wondering if these numbers are acceptable for the corals.

Salinity - 1.023
Ammonia - 0.15ppm
Nitrate - 10ppm
Nitrite - 0ppm
Alkalinity - 8.1
Temp- 79F

With my salinity, I haven’t check in awhile and I know that is low. I will be bringing that up to 1.026.

What test kit are you using? In a cycled tank you shouldnt show any ammonia

I’m using salifert test kits And a Hanna checker for alkalinity and I just realized that I recorded the ammonia wrong from my AquaticLog app. There is 0 ammonia. Could the low salinity be the reason the zoas aren’t open?
