I like the show, but I would love to see some of the manufacture of the tanks. Especially since I love DIYing. As for putting the fish in the quarantine system for me they could have mentioned about the cycling and measures that were taken before hand. This would have not left the impression they set it up and then just put the fish in the system. We as educated aquarists understand this but newbies won't. Waiting for the next episode on the 19th and if you missed this episode it will play again after the premiere on the 19th.

Point taken and a good one, yes I have been around for a little while lurked for the longest and have a few years in age. My wife and I also are looking to having a tank back in the house, everything has been in our greenhouse since the early to mid 90's. I am hoping to get some good ideas from the show that I can put to use. Won't be spending 30k on the system though, for that amount I would have to build a fish room.

All right Rev you found me out. :wink: On LARC a few members and myself are referred to as dinosaurs. We built our first reef filter with gravel trays from a description in an article in FAMA since there weren't any pictures available. Back then you had to DIY all you specialized equipment since it was not available for purchase.

a few idiots might get the wrong idea and go buy 50 fish to put in a 30g tank but most people will research before they drop that kind of money. Plus I am pretty sure that on their reef tanks they use cured rock and as for the fish only tanks...well its pretty hard to kill fish in that much water with an amonia spike. We would be talking gallons of amonia in that water. They must do something right otherwise people wouldnt come to them to have their tanks set up. If fish were dyin all the time they would lose their reputation and their business. Just sayin this hobby has come a long way since undergravel filters and oyster shell substrate. And as far as cycling your water doesnt have very many nitrosomas free floating in it. Most are in the rock and substrate so if you use good cycled rock and sand there is no point in letting the water age. Its all about surface area on substrate for nitrosomas not gallons of water and how old the water is.

I like their acrylic works and creativity, but I'm really really diasspointed with the way they handle their livestock. Black tip sharks in that tiny tank, common! Why?!?
All those yellow tangs, damsels, triggerfish, puffers, butterflyfish, angelfish, chromis.... all those species in the same tank!?!?!?! People like this should not be allowed to purchase and handle live stock, period.

Yes, episode 2 is even worse. They have a small tank and state we put in small fish because it's a small tank. But baby blue tangs and other baby fish that grow to 8+ inches don't count as small fish. They are not representing the hobby well at all.
