I’ve had trouble keeping some snails alive for very long. Cerith and Nassarius seem to survive long term, however Astrea, Trochus, and Turbos seem to not do well. There is PLENTY of algae to eat. I suspect ingesting Dino toxins may be the cause, but I’d value a second opinion before I buy a...
hey all, ive had some red/brown spots showing up on my sand, lately its gotten a little worse and I don't really feed a whole lot. I got a test done at my lfs last week and everything was zero, (except nitrate which was like 5ppm or w.e) which can obviously be a problem. ive started to feed on a...
Hello,
I've went fallow on my tank for a couple months due to a velvet outbreak. During this time I started to get some GHA throughout the tank and it slowly turned into this webby reddish algae. I was thinking about getting some fish soon since the velvet is more than eradicated by now, but I...

So I’ve had dinos for a while now, tried low lighting, dosing with special blend and nite out, and manual removal. But it’s not really making a dent. So going to look at nitrate and phosphate dosing.
Attached are the tests I’ve just done.
Nitrate at 2 (aiming for 3-10 as per BRS guidance)...
I finally purchased a microscope after dealing with this dinoflagellate for a year and the battle is still going on! If I can get some expert advice on the type that would be greatly appreciated. That would allow me to find out the right way to deal with this enemy that will not go away.
Thank...
So I’ve been running my first reef tank for about 4 months now. 30 gallon with 10 gallon sump. About 5 gallons of the sump space is setup as a refugium. Never really had much of an ugly phase until a month and a half ago when I had a huge dino outbreak. Within a few days everything was...
Hello all! New to reefing but I have a masters in Marine Biology, if that even gives me any credibility lol. I recently had my first dino outbreak, I let nutrients hit 0 when I was on vacation and I returned to a disgusting looking reef tank. At the time I didnt have a microscope so there was...
I couldnt find a clear answer. My tank is riddled with dinos and I'm currently working on removing them. Can dinos cause fish to eat less, swim less, and overall look lethargic?
I took my clowns out to bring to my lfs, they offer free qt and hospital tanks so they are currently working on my...
Hello, pretty new to reefing and I let my phosphates zero out after not feeding for a day as I was on vacation, came back to brown sand, pretty sure its dino. Bought a microscope and got some videos of them, if anyone could help me ID them I'd appreciate it! First one at 600x other at 1200x
Just a quick overview before we begin, one I would like to thank you for taking your time to read and help me out and two I'll keep a close eye for any replies.
So I have a 90 gallon aquarium with no Coral just two clownfish, one neon goby, one blue sapphire damsel, and one fox face rabbitfish...
What’s up everyone, just have a quick question on what I got in the tank. Is it Cyano or Dinos? This tank has been up and running for 2 months and I have not had this algae but till about 2 weeks ago. I use an Ai Prime for the light mainly for my GSP. Just wondering what this is and what I can...
I was gifted a mature, stable, but neglected 75g reef a few months ago, quickly added a lot of fish without quarantine and had A very mild ich outbreak. Started dosing Polyp Lab Medic in response and a few days later, I noticed small amounts of dinoflagellate algae everywhere in my display tank...
hello all I am new to reef2reef and I’m having a little trouble, I am dealing with some pesky, what I’m thinking is either Dino's or Calothrix. I’ve been trying to get nutrient levels up but can’t seem to. Can’t even keep Cheato alive which I’m assuming with a new-ish tank this is going to be a...
So I'm currently fighting off detritus or diatoms. My lfs guy said diatoms. I can't really tell the difference as I'm pretty new to the hobby
My current livestock (not cuc)
2 clownfish (one percula one ocellaris)
1 neon blue goby
3 blue sapphire damselfish (probably one, haven't seen the other...
So the tank has got the ugly going on... Nitrates and Phosphates are at zero. So I assumed the worst and pulled a sample and checked under the scope... Does this look like dinoflagellates??? It looks like it to me.
Thanks in advance!
several sps have burnt tip, am I dealing with dino?

I have been struggling to get my Nitrates above 0.00 for months. Even with tripling feeding to 100 small pellets and about 1.5 cubes of frozen a day in my 65, it hasn't budged. I previously used a Red sea test kei, but now use the Hanna HR nitrate and ULR phosphate and same results.
65 gallon...
Hello,
My tank is currently 2 months old, problems started a month ago, when I though that Dino appeared in the tank (phosphates bottomed to 0) and I did 5 day black out and dosing bacter7, but recently I discovered that algae on rocks turning green. Here are some photos:
1. During water...
Hey guys once again battling algae… started dinox last night and it says not to add trace elements and no products that absorb. My tank is ultra low nutrient and I want to add Neonitro to help battle the Dino’s. Can I do both at the same time?
I know there are many threads about treating Dino’s, but I think I have a bit of a unique case and need some help deciding on treatment/management. I have a 80 gal tank (mixed reef) about 2 months old, and confirmed Dino’s by aggregation test today.
A few weeks ago my nutrients bottomed out and...
When i try to scrape it off it disperses like sand. Everything is turning brown, even the substrate and glass. I tried buying a phosphate test buy i could find it here so i’ll try and see if an aquarium store can perform the water tests. The ammonia is at 0.25ppm and salinity at 1024
