So I'm in a group on Facebook and they are having a pico build contest. They haven't announced the prize yet and would like people to use things that aren't actual aquariums like vases and such. I am thinking about trying it with a glass container I have that holds i think 2 maybe 3 gallons. My concern is it's round/cylinder shaped and I have no idea what you use for a filter. Any ideas or suggestions? The contest will run for 14 weeks.

Sponge filter with rocks around it? Just make sure you can remove the sponge filter without disturbing the rocks.

Just my thought. You could easily do bare bottom as well.

I'm also assuming it needs to be Reef, not freshwater?

Yes abs I would need flow correct? How could I get that as a sponge wouldn't give much I don't think?

If you're doing mostly softies you wouldn't need a lot. If you 90 the outlet of the sponge and turn up the air enough it'll give some flow. In fact, I had a 6 gallon AIO running on airlift alone and it was enough flow it was pushing my sand around. It does work.

Just remember, use a coarse air stone or no air stone - fine bubbles make air bubbles in the tank.

And use a lid or prepare for evaporation.

And there are some Cave Gobies that could work in a 2-3 gallon tank but I'd look more at RFAs and Sexy Shrimp or something for livestock.

The container has a glass lid. This is it the container I have but I swear it looks bigger than 1 gal I will have to check it when I get home.

I just looked and they do sell a two gallon version I'm 99% sure that's the one I have.

I'm thinking colorful mushrooms if I can find some not too expensive and cuc that stays small and maybe the pom pom crab I ordered if it makes it or some kind of neat shrimp.
