Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
By the way Joel all of this talk about Aiptasia got me off my duff and I cleaned the Aiptasia of the return Loc-line. The only Aiptasia I can find now is one on the stalk of the Trumpets and a few really struggling ones in the rear chambers. I know the nudis couldn't get to the ones on the return so I was just lazy. I was leaving the one on the Trumpets both to see if I still had Berghia and to act as food if I do. The Trumpet is a little away from the rocks so they may not have found it yet or the Berghia may have died out although I can't find any on the rocks.

Thanks Joel for getting me to do my job.

Joel,

It's not possible to get all one sex. Every Berghia is AC/DC or self-identifies as both/either. I also think you got good healthy nudis from Reeftown because they crawled off on their own and 10 should have been enough. I'm wondering if it is the conjunction of bare-bottom tank, strong flow and big hungry fish. They got eaten before they got kids or the kids got eaten as well before they were kids.
What if he put the fish in a hospital tank, turned down the flow and let them get established for a few weeks before adding the fish back? There has to be a way without tearing down the tank. Or do the same with an army of aptasia eating peppermint shrimp or when the fish are temporarily removed add a few aptasia eating file fish until the job is complete.

It would probably work fine but it would take them a month or more probably to rid the tank. Both Peppermints and Filefish can work but I'm not really a fan of either as they both can go rogue and in the case of the Filefish make sure it is eating before you buy it.

My thought was the Berghia would have significantly reproduced and some might get eaten the majority would stay in the nooks and crannies and only be out when the lights are off.

I think I’m going to try it also. Not sure when, I’ve got something going on Friday so maybe Tuesday when my wife is at work and I’m allowed in her kitchen.
It would be epic to see it done first on Cooking/Grilling with Kevin!

One thing I do know is I'm not about to leave you guys!
As far as the tank goes, I really don't know.
I've thought about starting all over again with a bigger glass tank but I don't know if I have the energy for it.
I'm finally happy with my lights and everything else.
If the aiptasia would just die out I'd keep going.
I'm just super bummed the berghia did nothing.
I've learned a few things through this experience and I can help others along the way.
So like was mentioned why not just get rid of all the rock and start with new rocks? That way you don't have to get rid of your beautiful fish.

I've thought about it Tim I have.
Just don't know if he could handle the tank environment.
I would give it a try before starting over you never know it might work!
