Nassarius or whelks?🫣🤔
Shell Characteristics

  • Nassarius Snails: Generally have elongated, slender shells with a more delicate appearance. Their shells are often less colorful.
  • Whelks: Possess thicker, more robust shells that are often spiral-shaped and can be more ornate, with ridges or knobs.
I also came across this page. the snouts of whelks tend to be tattooed like a giraffe. yours looks like that.

nassarius are a type of whelk. The type you don’t want are the predatory ones. Their siphon is mottled and unlike the nassarius they don’t spend time under the sand. I’m thinking predatory whelk.

So yank and flush?

Should I crush and feed to hermit or flush down toilet?
They were all congregated around some sinking pellets I tossed in earlier. More keep turning up. Snails 🐌 trap I guess

I set mine out in the sun for a couple weeks, rinsed and put back in the tank and a hermit moved in immediately.

Do you have a sump. They could help clean detritus in there
True. I have a pencil urchin and a fleshy limpet and 3 peppermint shrimp (I think, haven't seen them for a while but there's no Aiptasia left) in there
