Houston do we have a problem? Every single mushroom I’ve put in my tank detaches. Over three years ago this one did and for a long time I thought it had went the way of the others. About 2 1/2 years ago it attached to the side of my rock. About a year or so ago it split. Over the last six months it has been dropping more and more babies. I’ve seen tanks over run with mushrooms, mostly green and red. Should I intervene now and if so how?

I have them everywhere now.
They do make great cover, especially in bare spots.
I always wanted them to cover the bottom of the tank.
By intervene do you mean stop their progress or move them?

If you do upgrade Kev, it might be nice for some cover.
They were the only thing that smothered the aiptasia when I had some.
Can't believe I can say that now.
The only real way to contain them is to leave a few biggies attached and constantly retrieve the little ones before they go somewhere.
I've seen tanks also overrun with them and yes, they will smother and nothing seems to sting them but in both those cases I asked how long it took to get that out of control and both people said a couple of years.
You could also give some away when they multiply.

I've never tried.
I got my 2 for free from someone who just gave them to me off their sandbed.
Tim will know.

I love my mushrooms in my pico and the few in my big tank. They don't seem to grow super fast.

I would like to keep them unless they become a plague, but if that happens I want to know their is a way to deal with them.

Yes. Snip a small piece of and toss it in a bowl with some rubble. You'll end up with a baby from the snip and the parent will heal 90% of the time if not more.

What kind Amanda?

The ones in the pico are red but site what kind they are as they came on a rock from my lfs. The only one I'm pretty sure I know the name of is a yellow jaw breaker. Here's pictures for you if them. The last one is the one in the pico. They are in a hard spot to get a good picture of.

@Calmwaters I believe they're all Discosoma mushrooms. The blue one may be an Elephant Ear but it am not positive.
