What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
@Calmwaters
Amanda. I did a 20 gallon change yesterday.

And a 10 gallon change today.

Your numbers have to come down when doing a water change.
So either your new water is no bueno or testing is faulty.
With a 10 percent change today this is exactly what this test should say.
But if I'm trying to decipher colors, it's just going to look the same.
Does that make sense?
I did a change again today just for you just for this reason.
Hope this helps/makes sense.

Yes it does make a lot of sense! So now I just need to decide which ones to get. I can get 15% off my first order from Hanna so that would help some.

ouch! would you be interested in buying used checkers? they are here on the marketplace all the time
I have been watching and it seems like when I find them is when I don't have extra fun money to spend. Lol

Amanda, Nitrate HR and Phosphate ULR are the two I would definitely go Hanna for. Alk, calcium, magnesium I'd be happy with API, Red Sea, Salifert, etc. pH get a cheap Amazon pen probe for. They're like $15.

I test phosphates because my system eats them - some people can't get rid of them.

I test nitrates infrequently because they hold pretty stable.

Alkalinity and calcium titration tests get you close enough - my Salifert alkalinity is usually within 0.1 of my Hanna tester. Hanna is just immediate, Salifert etc. require time for the titration and good eyes to see the lines on the syringes.

So this is how my day is going, I don’t think I’m in Kansas anymore.

Well it's going through Arizona first to get to you! Except that was 2 hours ago and I haven't seen anything yet ...

Do you guys trust the digital salinity test pens? I have a really hard time seeing my refractometer.
I use the refractometer. Aim it at a bright light? I'd rather use a hydrometer than a pen for salinity myself. Not that I don't trust them, just old technology works as good or better.

Thank you

Before I got my trigger I'd buy one every year and a half.
One day fine, next day no mas....
Well it's good to know I probably didn't do something wrong as that seems to be the general experience yall have had.

Um.....
Did anyone eat tacos today?
I had a taco salad for lunch!
This is really embarrassing but no. Oh, the shame!

I had smoked polish sausage with red beans and rice on tortillas so that counts right?

Please tell me this is something like a feather duster or something harmless on the back of this snails shell... sorry those are the best the pictures i got of about 15 that I took...
