Warning; mini brain dump--

This brings up an interesting idea (I have my best ideas in the restroom but while sleeping is a close second, this is a sleeping idea so could be legit): Some people have really good success using Kalkwasser or Lime Juice to kill Aiptasia but others have zero success with it. I think the difference is application and where the Aiptasia is located.

Your Aiptasia that completely melted was on lava rock, a porous material and I have also had good success with Kalkwasser on Aiptasia on porous rock surfaces but even a citric bath doesn't kill all of them on non-porous surfaces like plastic, glass, or titanium. I've never citric-bathed a reef rock but I believe you are right it will work pretty much 100% of the time on a reef rock, because it is porous.

I think that the key to actually killing, versus just maiming or encapsulating an Aiptasia is to completely saturate the foot which is very difficult on a non-porous surface. So why do some have luck with Lime Juice or Kalkwasser and others don't; I think the key is to apply enough down close to the foot to saturate the rock at the Aiptasia's foot.

Kalk paste worked for me, but the real key is not letting it get out of hand.
As much as I work I just couldn't keep up with how fast these guys spread, especially in a tank that's as overfed as mine.
I'd make the paste just so it would barely come out of my syringe and cover them fully.
It would suffocate them and melt them.
Turn off all flow and just let the paste sit for a couple days.
You can turn flow back on after an hour or so.
But, the paste will kill other stuff like coraline and corals so you have to be careful.
Like I said I couldn't keep up with them and most I couldn't reach without pulling everything apart.
I only use this method now on my overflow box since the nudis are still in the tank I guess.
Lemon juice, hot water never worked for me.
Vinegar worked great but you can only use so much before you are carbon dosing to the extreme.

Thank you all! It has been an adventure! I’m really getting the hang of dosing and adding my trace elements. Tank has been very stable. I am sticking with Soft and LPS only minus the 3 SPS I have lol.
