this is why I never tried it back when I wanted to. the whole under gravel filtration.

It works fine and is simple. The hard part was flow until today's powerheads came out. Tunze NanoStreams was one of the earliest. I used MaxiJets with toy boat props, they worked kind of okay.

Been a minute since I did Katahdin. Bad in my rebel years. I hiked up with a 76lb bag, and made everyone help drink all my booze that night and hiked down with a 32lb bag hahaha.

Probably nothing livestock wise but pull any carbon, GFO, etc. for the duration. Why flux, algae?
