Speaking of clean up crew. Are there any decorative cuc members that are actually reef safe? I'd like a big colorful hermit crab but I worry about my snails and such

Halloween hermits ate awesome looking as well as blue knuckle crabs. Halloween will definitely eat your snails and conchs though.

I think i'll be ordering some more cuc soon. I have 4 or 5 bumblebees right now. Might get another dozen or so and a bunch of other smaller rock dwellers

I wish I could give you some stomatella snails. I saw one when I first set up my tank. There are probably 40 or so out right now

If I ever get real low and need to plan a vacation we'll swing out for snails (obviously the most cost effective plan) and some authentic gumbo!

Yes, but if you keep adding some, eventually some of them will start to reproduce and while you will have losses you will still have a healthy CuC. My Yellow Wrasse mainly goes after ceriths and the occasional Astrea. The Possum doesn't seem to go after them. If you have wrasses, you buy more CuC from time to time, just the way it is. What makes reefing difficult is that you are trying to harness nature and tell it to not be natural. It just isn't going to happen so you learn to manage it.

I wanted to run this idea by you guys:
Switching to sump. I wanna try and ditch HOB filter and go with a sump for a multitude of reasons. However I have 0 idea how sumps work and how I'd set one up. How exactly would I do this? I already have an idea of a Fiji 20 gallon sump. Just make it simple. Im tired of HOB because I seem to not be getting good results etc. As I've matured I've realized that hob was a shortcut as a kid. I wanna keep the Remora though, no point in buying an in sump skimmer.

I'm 10 pages and 12 hours behind but all you need Camden is an overflow box with a hose and anything for a sump, 20 gallon tank, tub-whatever.
I had a 5 gallon bucket for a sump once.
Don't even have to have it under the tank.
When I started this thread mine was on the side of the tank, which I highly prefer.
You get it going and we'll help along the way.
Just ask.

I guess I got lucky. Until they died, I had two wrasses that obviously didn't eat them lol. Ive got my share.

So can I just structure PVC for overflow or something. Just a build?

Eshopps pf 300 for that size tank.
I run that on my 100 gallon, more than enough.
I only run about 200 gph through it.
Yeah, it can have problems, sure, especially if you flow not enough it'll break siphon.
Done that, been there.
Or too much.
Get a DC, adjustable flow and measure it out at the weir and your golden.
Like anything you still want to clean it out a couple of times a year.
Lot easier than DIY unless you rock the DIY, which I don't I'm a BIY, break it yourself
