Any sci-fi nerds on here? I’m streaming ( that’s watching it without interruption for you older reefers) Extant on Netflix. What makes it so good you ask? Well to begin with it stars Halle Berry ( enuf said), season two Jeffrey Dean Morgan ( Walking Dead fans here, I’m talking Neagen the badest bad guy ever) joins her as a main character and lastly it has aliens and robots. How I missed this series back in 2014-2015 is beyond me.

I 'used to be a fan?', I was but my wife not even a little bit so officially, nah-don't like that stuff. Well maybe a little while my wife is at orchestra practice but we don't have cable, satellite, streaming, or over-the-air, we have DVD/BRs and about the only SciFi I have left is the Jurassic Parks.

My wife was completely non-exposed to sci-fi before we married. Two of the first things I read aloud to her were a short story called "Balanced Ecology" by James H. Schmitt and his novel "The Witches of Karres." She thought they were really weird but tolerated them because she sensed my enthusiasm. She has adapted and can enjoy some sci-fi, but probably still not her favoritist.

I bought: two top crowns and two maurgerites, one pincushion and a lettuce nudibranch. LFS didn't have too much. Reef cleaners has been postponed for now and I also bought water for a change and scrub!

Good evening Smorg family.
I was messing with the tank and broke out my PAR meter just for something to do. I know most online retailers and a lot of hobbyist say to keep goniopora in low - moderate light. I have seen anywhere from 50 - 250 mentioned. Actually only one time at 250 and that was in 'extreme' cases. Well, I've had my goniopora probably 6 weeks now. It came from a friend's tank who aquacultures LPS and SPS. He keeps most his LPS in 300-350 PAR during a 5 hour peak period.
Anyway, I got my goni in and put it on the outer edge of my tank. About two weeks in I noticed it wasn't happy. So I moved it to a spot directly under a supplemental light I have for the magnifa anemone. This is on top of the Kessil a360x running at 90% intensity during peak, mostly white, very little blue. Same as my friends tank. Anyway. That spot averages 325-350 PAR for 5 hours a day. Since moving the goni it has grown considerably.
Sorry for the blurry pic, my photography skills are lacking. I am going to write an article which will more than likely ruffle some feathers regarding PAR and spectrum.

Also, the front torch is one of my favorites. Some tentacles are solid purple, some solid yellow, some this weird mottled mix.

On my new build I am going to run two metal halide flanked by two Orphek blue plus and two orphek day reef crest. The bars will be for ramp up and down, then turn way down while the halides are on for 5 hours. It is gonna be EPIC!!

There's nothing better than a good shake up, Keith. I've learned so much more from people's actual experiences in reefing than from the experts or even some conventional wisdom. It's funny I was about to post my gonis and be proud of myself because they've lived more than a month in my tank lol.

Rights now, I'd say they are sitting in about 150, but I'm interested in what you're saying here and can't/wouldn't argue with your results. Please let me know when you post your article. Good stuff, Rock.

Beautiful, what’s the trade name?

I've only seen it once called a Kidaran torch. I got my through my friends wholesaler though. It was CHEAP...well, kind of. Lol
I saw it anf said I wanted it. The wholesaler doesn't have names on them. I picked it out of about 600 torch pictures.

I'm not saying anyone is wrong. I think it is a marketing ploy to sell the extreme blue LEDs. The ocean water at 40m doesn't even have the amount of 'blues' the major LED companies are pushing in there stuff. They also leave out all the greens...which actually compromise about half of the spectrum at 40m, which is 120 feet. That's about the deepest LPS are collected. Most are collected alot shallower since the divers normally aren't scuba diving. It has to be in one breath. My information comes from a great article by Dana Riddle.
