Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
I've been told not to, most sand in my tank is unreachable that's why I want a rescape. I wanna take out half of my live rock but im not sure if its possible.
Not sure who recommended to not vacuum the sandbed. Detritus gets in there and builds up which can and will lead to problems.

If you plan on rescaping and putting some or all of them back in you could put them in a big tote with tank water a heater and a wave maker to keep from losing the good bacteria.
Great advice!! Plus, one he pulls them, he can give them a good scrub with a stiff bristle brush to get rid of the GHA.

This is why I want a sump lol.
That won't help if the rocks are covered in GHA though. You would need to clean the rocks before putting them back in the system.

Good morning my friends. I went back and caught up, I didn't react to everything but at least I know what's going on. Missed yall

Thanks Amanda. :)
I hope your tanks are doing well. Sounds like you have them headed back in the right direction!
Yes thank you! I should be getting my order from saltwateraquarium.com tomorrow with the sexy shrimp, porcelain crab and RFA.

How would I find out what's causing the nutrient issues? My skimmer is off currently to process the rest of the fluanzacole and will be turned on soon. I personally feel like if I did a rock swap the tank would become easier to manage.
Camden,

Are you manually removing GHA? If you use Fluconazole and don't pull the dead and dying GHA your tank will just become a nutrient cesspool. There are no quick and easy remedies. Chemical fixes are at best temporary you still need to fix the underlying issues.

You should be vacuuming the sand bed during water changes. Whoever told you not to probably meant to not go crazy with it. I typically vacuum around 25% of the sand bed during a water change and rotate which section I am vacuuming so that it all gets vacuumed. If your sand is fairly deep (like 2" or more) and you vacuum it all at once, it is possible to cause issues but it is actually rarely a problem with anything less than about a 4" or more sand bed (deep sand bed).

As we said before a sump may make some things easier, and also some harder, and give you more room for things like extra rock, etc., it will not fix algae or nutrient issues.

A rip clean is a temporary fix. It seems great because everything looks pristine but if you don't fix your husbandry issues the same problem will return, maybe not for 6 months or even a year but it will return. Replacing your rock just means you bring in a fresh set of potential benefits and issues. It will just be different not necessarily better.

Weird thing that happened in my tank.

I went to my LFS and bought Cheato. A week later I found out from test my nitrates and phosphates were rising fast. The only thing I did was add Cheato at the time. Well I ended up finding out that the Cheato was leaching nitrates and phosphates after I removed all the Cheato.

Do you run a refigium?
