Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
This is why I want a sump lol.
I don't test that often.
But I've been noticing cyano on the back wall and sand.
I have just a little sand to help the rocks stay in place.
So I decided to test 2 weeks ago cuz I suspected phos was high
Sure enough yep it was at .95 so I put 1 tblsp of rowaphos in my reactor mixed with a bag of carbon.
I tested last week and phos hit .34.
This week up to .41 so I put in a tsp of rowa and a bag of carbon.
Throughout the last 2 weeks the cyano has started to abate but I need my nutrients to remain stable.
I also tested salinity.
It was low at 1.024 and alk was 6.3.
My alk regent was also expired.
What I'm getting at is it's a process.
It's actually a job.
But a job I love.
If I could just mess with my tank instead of cook all day, wow, life would be grand.
So, keep a journal so you know where you are at.
And test.

Not sure who recommended to not vacuum the sandbed. Detritus gets in there and builds up which can and will lead to problems.
Yep I literally siphon mine out and replace on a regular basis.
But I'm a weirdo 🤪

first epoxy coating to waterproof floor boards and seating. Painting with epoxy is tough. have to keep mixing small amounts to avoid it drying before the next board. Painting with molasses would be easier.

Beautiful brohemoth!

Will be a big shout out to you soon my friend I've only got 2-3 left.
My tank has never looked better thanks to you.
When/if I get any life I'm writing an article about aiptasia and you're definitely a big part of it.
Once again thanks and peace ✌️...
So happy to hear that you only have 2-3 left. I told you, all you need to do is be patient and let the little guys do the work.

Do not know truly what a "rip clean " is but I'm against that and don't find it necessary.
I am of the thought like the others.
You must always find the source of the problem and correct it or it will keep happening over and over.
And honestly, I've always had algae and a swampy look and feel to all my tanks.
I run white lighting and over feed
But my tank smells exactly like the ocean, exactly where I grew up and everything is happy.
I've never had a clean tank and I embrace that
You're a good kid and I'm going to suggest you stay off the rip clean thread and concentrate on adding a sump and getting these nutrients under control in a natural fashion.
I'd suggest a routine of carbon dosing on a small scale to start and if you need help with that, let us know.
Don't rip and clean.
Period.
Thanks for all the replies. I just need to figure out if I can drill my tank and I'll be good to go by Christmas.

Weird thing that happened in my tank.

I went to my LFS and bought Cheato. A week later I found out from test my nitrates and phosphates were rising fast. The only thing I did was add Cheato at the time. Well I ended up finding out that the Cheato was leaching nitrates and phosphates after I removed all the Cheato.

Do you run a refigium?
No but I want too.

Is drilling easy enough for me and my dad to do on our own? I have hea d of carbon dosing. How does it work?
