I bought my kiddo the Creality K2 Combo. it's for Christmas so haven't tried it yet. how long did it take to print that? how are the melted fumes?

You usually don't smell the plastic being melted; it's not as potent as you would think. The Creality K2 is a good printer to start with! I have a buddy who has a Creality and he loves his (has a bambu and Creality). You can honestly speed up prints or slow them down, it's all about preference, the filament you are using, and how perfect or not you want the print. Generally, if you slow a print down, you will get more rounded edges, but you can risk clogs happening more, and sometimes the filament won't come out fast enough, and you'll get stringing. It's a lot to take in at first, but after a couple of prints, it comes naturally! Not to mention 3D printers now (a lot of them) will dynamically speed up or slow down depending on how far the nozzle has to travel

First pic, the ornament is sandwiched between breakfast for size reference.

Second and third pics are more for color as the first pic doesn’t show the actual color very well.

I looked at the Bambu as well but thought a my daughter would want multi color and Bambu was too expensive. did you get a 3D scanner too? been wondering about those.

No, I did not get a 3D scanner and do not know much about them.

@Üter - Paul... as much as it pains me to do so, mostly because I like being an unagreeable person, I have to agree with Bailey. There was no odor, at all, that I noticed. However, I used PLA filament which is a lower odor filament. ABS is known to have some fumes and I will be printing some ABS things. If I remember, I'll let you know how the fumes are. With any luck, they'll be akin to the Testers glue I loved so much when I was a kid!

I honestly didn't know about 3D scanners. I think those are better if you need them for commercial printing. They have apps you can use on your phone where you can take pictures and convert them into CAD files. This was done by converting the R2R logo into a CAD file using Tinker Cad. Took a little bit of work to get the colors down, but overall happy with how it turned out.

PETG doesn't have an order either; it's about on par with PLA. Never printed with ABS as my nozzle isn't powerful enough to do ABS

Also for filament. I don't know how much research you have done, but I would stick with PLA for a little bit. It's much easier to print with and generally has less room for error. Once you get into denser filaments such as PETG, ABS, or TPU, then errors are more frequent. This is due to those filaments having a higher melting point, thus requiring your base plate and nozzle to be hotter. There are pros and cons to all the filaments. These two websites below have great charts showing the difference between all the major filaments. I am always happy to answer any questions you or anyone might have! 3D printing is an amazing hobby to get into, and I always recommend people of any age to get into it.

I only ordered the Hyper PLA RFID right now. I just checked and it's the ABS we have for the pen which is kind of stinky.

Oh nice! Those rolls will automatically sync with the printer, eliminating the need to manually set what kind of filament it is in the printer's settings (Bambu does this with their line of filaments too). I also have some Elegoo filament, haven't had the chance to use it, but heard it's good for what it is. The only downside is that every time I load the filament, I have to manually select what kind of filament and color it is.

I just had a multi-million dollar idea. 3D filament with fragrances. You design and develop it and I'll sell it.
