Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
I hope it's ok to bring back an older thread. I'm looking at SM's Hog 3xx to add to my refugium. It's definitely undersized for my 300gal but I'm hoping it will complement my refugium which is not doing much of anything (new tank started about 6 months ago, refugium implemented about 3 months ago) with caulerpia. I don't have any more room in the bottom of my stand for another device. Any comments on SM and their products would be helpful as well as thoughts on my proposed application. This will be in my living room so I don't want it to be deafening.
Welcome to the Smorgasbord!
Ask all the questions you want, that's what we're all here for!
Santa monica scrubbers get great feedback everywhere you look.
I've never used one but know many who have.
They are great for any system but do take some time to establish, especially on a new system.
The surf models, according to my research work amazingly well and are relatively quiet.

Welcome back Jimmy, you were missed!

won't last long tired, plant has been shut down for Christmas shut down. plenty of major work going on with equipment. I come home looking like I slid into second base

Hows it going Jimmy? How's the tank?
doing ok as far as I can see, I catch it a bout an hour before the light go out. water testing is due tomorrow so i will see how far the dKH adjustments have gone. I do need to get some whole tank shots for everyone with some white light. I still have some coral that are small but doing great.

I don’t mean to brag and I really don’t want to make Tim look bad, I’m sure what ever he got his wife was awesome but this was my gift to my wife for our anniversary. As you can see she was beside herself with happiness!

Man I know we'd all love to see that!! Im interested in your dkh too. What did you decide to dose?

Moments like these make me hate this hobby with all my heart. It makes me so angry that something like this happens and I don't have an answer after months of him eating really well and everything being perfect in the tank with no problems with the other fish. I'm so upset right now.

So sorry my friend!

Great, now I'm picturing all these 8 year old starving children in Thailand swimming out into the reefs dosing cyanide to catch fish for their families income. 🙄
I think the Philippines is where it was (is?) most prevalent, but yes it is very sad and they are also caught for food. It isn't like it was in the 80s but it is still out there.

I knee jerked and went to Petco, they had RedSea alkalinity (B). been small dosing, the dKH came up a tad last water test (4days ago) I did mix up some sodium bicarbonate, have it bottled and may change to that after this weekend. depends on how thing look and trying to keep PH close to my wanted number, was keeping the dKH at 9.3 to 10, and PH 8 to 8.4 , without chasing numbers, just regular maint
