The green part is the tissue, and like most other LPS it can expand and contract. When it expands it has a molten ooze look!

Tanks dont need to be expensive. This tank is…a Home Depot bin! Hang on back filter and a skimmer! A jebao clone of the vortech. And a meridian 11.

We have the pollo loco, a staple Mexican item at our restaurants, but I have never heard of a Pollo Loco Resturant before

It's actually an amazing place. El Pollo Loco seasons and grills their chicken onsite right where you can watch. Half of the kitchen is two large grills full of chicken halves and carne asada. Fresh and delicious.

I am always curious with frag tanks how do you keep it properly cycled without rock and sand? Like what hosts the beneficial bacteria or do you just not keep fish in it?

I thought about converting my one AIO into a frag tank and removing the rock and just adding egg crate but I was not sure what I could do to keep it cycled.

There's always filter media. The right media will have significant surface area and nooks and crannies for bacteria to populate.

@VintageReefer thats definitely a solid idea. I been considering a frag tank do in the basement tied into my 120g's system but was worried about light bleeding into the sump tanks

I keep a clownfish in it, a large mesh bag of matrix that I cooked in the sump my main tank, and then the shelves, racks, plugs, corals, walls, water all carry beneficial bacteria.

I skipped cycle, mostly. I did get a bacterial bloom and the water was very milky/hazy for about 2 weeks. I do have some hair algae now - nothing serious. I need to add some more snails but didn’t want to add to many at once. I think I have 10 turbos in here and a few bumblebee. I will be adding some Babylon snails today :)

We had Cava the other day for lunch. Basically a Mediterranean version of Chipotle.

While my frag tank is standalone, this plastic bin tank would be super easy to drill and add bulkheads to plumb into a main system.

I have the 27 gallon $9 special but if you want to splurge you could get the 40 gal

Or if go big or go home is your mantra and money is no object you could get the 57 gallon!

They are pretty strong
I have the 27g filled close to the top
If I got a larger one I would aim for a lower, wider one, anticipating it won’t be filled 100%

When you don’t have a aquascape to work around and can make the tank into a true frag tank…you can fit a lot of stuff

Im pleasantly surprised how much I can fit in a 27g tub that’s filled about 75-80% with water

Plenty of larger items like acantho, multi head torches, I have two hammer colonies with 8+ heads, etc
plenty of room in here

need a whole new furnace. $7k+
but I have heat for now.
