Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
It is still filtering. The cups, the skimmer and the rock are all doing their job it is just not as efficient as it could be, it will be more difficult to keep the skimmer tuned and your ATO will be using the height of the entire sump for refill instead of just the return chamber.
Skimmer isn't running... I built the stand and it helped but it still eventually over flows in about 30 minutes or so.

Yours is THE example in my opinion. Id never even thought of a display sump before I saw yours!

I know it'll be hard to see, but Im going to do a "display behind the AIO wall"! You won't be able to see it, but it'll be there.

Almost as beautiful as Kevin's corals.

I would say this is an unusual design. It seems that all of the chambers may always be the same height which means the 'bubble trap' (the thin chamber between the second and return chamber is doing nothing unless you have a course sponge in there and even then it isn't as effective as it should be.

Does you return chamber water height fluctuate independently or does the entire sump stay at the same level all the time? It is possible that your sump is really just a tank with separators that serve no practical purpose.
It looks like there is a second baffle for the return chamber you can see in the top-down picture.

I'm done now and the doctor had told me it was going to be an epidural steroid shot but it was actually a nerve root block. The worst part was the lidocaine shot. Lol I'm still hurting some but she said it could take up to three days for the block to really take effect.
I know that feeling . That’s sad 😢 . I hope in three days you’ll get pain to stop .

I did catch that and pondered it for a while. Since all of the chambers are the same depth it appears that the holes/grids/slots/whatever for all the chambers are at or near the bottom so the only function the 'bubble trap' chamber can be providing is if there is a sponge in it it will trap some of the bubbles and dissipate them into the atmosphere.

Right now I honestly think it's made it worse but we read that sometimes it can make it worse for a few days until the steroids kick in good.

Well folks, my joyful weekend is over, working the next two days, so it will probably be Thursday before I can be blessed by everyone's presence again , good night everyone

I can put some filter pad down in there if you think it's a good idea.

No real reason to. The idea of that chamber is to hold some coarse sponge. As bubbles enter the sponge they get trapped and slowly off-gas into the air. Unless you are getting bubbles returned to your tank, it would just be one more thing to clean and one more potential failure point. From the way your sump is layed out I doubt you are getting any significant bubbles to the tank as they are probably disrupted by the rock in your sump before they ever get there.

No I have never noticed any bubbles.

The pink streak wrasse poked his head out of the rocks, so at least I saw him. It's still unusual for him not to come out for 2 feedings. Especially white worms.
Do you think maybe you have a bully in the tank? Maybe you need a camera... 😆
