Good morning everyone! Here's the "tree house" 😬

They just put their playhouse in a tree lol.

Life as the little brother looks like a tough one.

The power strip tripped. It was one that you could push a button and turn off and then back on separate outlets on it. It was shot. Maybe just old.

We replaced it with one from our house for now. And ordered one for the tank.

But looking for a better solution. I want something simple, inexpensive would be nice. That would send me an alert if it fails.

Have since read that the inkbird has an app that could have alerted me. Has anyone tested the inkbird app?

I don't need instant alerts. Within half an hour or so would have allowed me to avert the tragedy of the fish dying.

Thanks for asking

Well l’m sure everything is way out of wack, all I can think are large water changes spread out over days?
Yeah I agree with this Kevin. Not having too many sps right now, should help too. If it were me , I'd do just as you said. Do reasonably large water changes, and do them for a few days, testing frequently. Personally, id do a large one today to try to prevent the large alk spike.

Im sorry this happened on your much needed vacation brother

What kind of pump is it? I found i'm having a similar issue with DC pumps, it's my first time with them and they are sensitive to the smallest bit of build up. Or maybe it's just me.

I'm sure you're going to be demanding frequent pics of the corals 😅
Steven, it is. Synced SDC 7.0, the tank was just set earlier this year. I have a camera setup where I can watch it live but it’s not a great view of the corals but what I can see looks good, thanks.

Definitely a nice pump, my guess is as good as yours, fingers crossed it all turns out ok.

Man, always seems to happen when away from the systems.

Water changes and have him check calcium as spike in alk could cause the calcium to drop.
Great advice. I didnt think about this

To be honest I am not sure. They are a corporation. And I heard that someone up higher in the food chain would like to see it gone. But the folks here love it. I have worked with them recently on other equipment. I have been replacing things and spreading out the costs. Changed out heaters, return pump and a couple of the pop bloom lights. And have a flame angel in my quarantine tank for them. Was going to start charging them for one item when I turn in an invoice each month.

The power strip is important. I am willing to get a good one and charge them down the road for it. This is not a business for me. I genuinely just want to help them out. And this happens.....sad

Well, my son took the pump out and cleaned it is working, he was surprised what little gunk came out of it. He’ll be doing a 20 gallon water change also today but insist all corals look happy.
This sounds good Kevin.

I admit that this could be an unorthodox approach, but what about a bluetooth inkbird temperature controller? You'd get an alert when the temperature began to fall if it lost power. You'd be looking at $40 or $50. This paired with the kasa strips that Tim mentioned should do it

I considered similar but when Inkbird loses connection (power strip turns off) would it notify you anymore? The Kasa or Hydros sends a notification that they're disconnected after 5 minutes or so of no response to the cloud I believe.

Good morning peeps! Well, another day in paradise here, I was awakened by a call from my son, return pump failed overnight. Sump overflowed a little bit, 😠 He called off work so he could work on it .🤞An additional problem, he added a whole container all for reef, 900 ml instead of 50ml and I’m sure Alk is through the roof, he said everything looks fine. Anything I should have him do besides a a water change?
I'd do a water change but then just observe. I've heard of big alk overdoses before that not only did no damage but actually improved things. Keep an eye on the corals and if they looking stressed do another water change. Oh, and don't dose any more AFR for a while. Good luck. It will probably be fine.

Oh, hey Tom, good morning! Thanks Tom, that’s the plan.
