Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
He must have really got you good. I hope he is equally in pain.
I don't remember him hitting me in the side, but one of the managers who watched video told me did. I'm just glad I knew how to put a stop to it. If nothing else I didn't put him down gently.

Hate to see you hurting, hope healing comes fast for you. I do see you raising them boys right. The scenery behind the coop in the last pic, makes me want places like that
Yes, we were really lucky to get this place

So I have a Duncan that I have moved a few different places over the last several months and I can't seen to find a spot that is happy. I have noticed about the only time its polyps extend are in the morning before the lights come on. Should I try putting it in a really shady area? I have had it placed on the sand, place near the middle and almost at the top... I'm at a loss to what it wants. 😆

Well as bad as it is, I'm glad it's not worse.

it seems odd that it would be a herniated disc but a side jab could do it. is it really spine or do you think he bruised a kidney? especially if you have blood in urine. I hope you can get it diagnosed and healing. you've been through the wringer lately.

I have a Duncan rescue that outlived my purchased duncan. The light level seems to be around 100 to 120 PAR from what I have seen for myself. Mine is sitting at about 100 PAR, flow could be best described as medium low The duncan seems to be hsppy

I'm going to try moving it to an even less lighted area than I have before and see if that makes it happy.

I had mine thriving at the same level as my torches for four years. The way I placed my rock it has been on the top of my rocks, same level as my birdsnest. Figured I would need to move it but it has remained happy.

Tried it pretty much at the top and it didn't like it. Since it seems happiest before lights come on in the mornings I thought maybe its weird and just likes low light... the polyps have been closed and now that the lights are dimming down they are starting to come out.

Do you feed it?

@kevgib67 how's the tank after the fiasco? Did you bend your son over your knee and give him a good lesson?
Ha, he’s got me by almost a hundred pounds and 4”! It was partly my fault, I wasn’t clear enough and he had never dealt with AFR. The tank is no worse for wear. This is from yesterday.

Your tank is looking fantastic my friend!

I broadcast feed them all
They're pretty big eaters you may want to try target feeding a little mysis or one of the various LPS pellets. I find Duncans to be very forgiving of light from 100 up to around 150 PAR but they need medium flow. When they are well-feed they should stay open most of the day but they do randomingly close up for up to a day or so from time to time for no apparent reason. Mine are usually open pretty much as long as the lights are on. I target feed them mysis, Fauna Marin LPS pellets and either R.O.E. or Oyster Feast once or twice a week.
