You said, "It looks like this one" and not "It is this one." Threw me off.
Well when I do a Google search of orange and black aquarium heaters it was the only one that looked like mine so I'm guessing that's what it is. I have no idea if it's considered good or not.

Tom ! , for my info which is the better unit for thermometer and fail safe unit . I personally have a inkbird and a finnex heater .
I trust three heater brands: Eheim, Finnex and AquaEL (Ultra series). I've never had one of them fail, but they do eventually wear out. I've also had good luck with my Inkbird but know of others that have had them fail. Also Inkbirds trigger at a 1 degree differential whereas most Finnex trigger at .5 degrees so smoother control, although I don't think that really matters very much.

--edit--
I did get a defective Eheim once but it was failing right out of the box and was warranty replaced.

I love this! Getting out and doing things makes so many more memories for him and you than sitting and watching TV would!!!
Exactly! And it has taught them both to look for adventure and use their imagination. The whole world is a playground. I had forgotten that as an adult, but man have they ever reminded me!

I've have no experience with them. I can't say I would trust it overly. The heater is the most likely source of a tank crash, by far.

Personally I would put in a heater from Eheim, or Finnex. I'm using a BRS Titanium heating element (no built in controller) with an Inkbird on my main tank but I'm not comfortable with it so I'm constantly checking it. I use AquaELs on the 40B and the two 5-gallons, and when it is set up a Finnex on the Waterbox 15.

I avoid glass heaters today because it is too easy to accidentally break the tube, but there are several newer ones that you can supposedly run over with your car without breaking. I would avoid off-brand titanium units as not all titanium is of equal quality and I've seen photos of titanium tubes pitting. Most likely they are either poor-quality titanium or titanium-coated.

Understand. However, the average surface water temperature of the Great Barrier reef is 26-28 Celsius or roughly 79-82 degrees Fahrenheit. The last recent bleaching event, the temperature rose a mere 1 Celsius or 1.8F.. pushing temps close to 84 degrees. If you set your temp at 80 and the heater sticks on, it won't take long to cook your corals. Mine is set to 78 degrees with a 1 degree deviation. I know that doesn't seem like much of a difference. I know several coral farmers/hobbyist/propagation that run their systems at 76-77 for a "safety cushion".
I am not saying you are wrong, I just wanted to convey some information.
Agree with this! 100%

I like the idea of the titanium heaters. Ive just heard too many horror stories about them and stray voltage. Plenty of cases on R2R. That's why I got rid mine and went back old school. I dipped a metal net on my tank and got singed! Im sure there are measures I could take, but im too leery of them now.

Yes, that is how you set it up.
I do, and have done, the same. I set the heater a little higher than my parameters I enter into the Ranco controller.
billy mayes set it and forget it GIF
