I need some help designing my light layout and racking for my new 10 ft tank. Tank footprint from the top is 120”x36” with a center overflow trapezoid 40” in from each end of the tank. I plan on using 10-12 XR 30 Radions. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you. Here are some pictures of the old system that’s being upgraded for your viewing pleasure.

check out reefi as well. I think you get more bang for your buck than the radeons: https://www.reefi-lab.com/product-category/lighting/

Also give some consideration to Kessil if you enjoy the shimmer, there is evidence that kessil produces superior color development in corals :)

Wow that is an amazing looking tank!

You'll need something with some serious throw as its pretty deep - assuming mostly SPS like the existing tank?

Perhaps Radions through the centre, with Orphek OR4 Light Bars front and back to compliment?

I feel you may need to mount one, just to see how far the light penetrates with a PAR meter.

Hey Scott — you can check out @14 foot reef ’s new lighting setup. He just switched over to Quanta Atlas

As you know, my 450gal is all Orphek OR3 and OR4 lights. I’m pretty happy with them. My other tanks are all Radions, can’t go wrong with them as well.

Good luck with your build! Gotta start on your build thread, man. ;)

Here is a couple shots of the new lighting. I absolutely recommend the Atlas lights along with the Helix Meso Blue quad chip LED light bars.

House is in the middle of a remodel, sorry for the dirty glass ;)

Thanks for the input. I’m definitely considering the commercial Kessil W500 to help penetrate the 4ft height.

That’s definitely an option. I just need to find out how to build a 10ft rack to hang them all. I got the high intensity lens kits for my Radions but I don’t know if that’ll be enough to get down 4ft. Gonna test everything with my par meter

Thanks Larry! You have to come over and check out the tank. I have the first round of first in QT.

What did you use for the top rack/rail that allowed for the 14ft span? Trying to figure out what I can put together to hold all the lights that’s 10ft long because the rms rail is only 90 in.

RMS rails. Think of how the RMS rails mount to the arms. I sourced a 6" long metal slide that fits in the grove of the rail and cut the rounded ends of the rail flat so they fit together and then used the ceiling mount kits and anchored those in the studs of the ceiling.

I have to do some wire management cleanup still after I add 4 more 24" meso blue Helix LED strips to the 2 end tanks. When I do. I'll send details of the custom joints I made and the joining metal strip.

I’d consider the a500 a viable and possibly superior alternative to the w500. The a500 is higher wattage and offers two optional reflectors to concentrate the beam for deeper penetration. I have two a500s (and three a360s) over a six-foot long 30” deep tank and I had to remove the reflectors and turn the a500s significantly down to get my PAR low enough to avoid frying my corals. I think they would easily penetrate 48”.

I have a par meter and would be happy to crank mine to 100% with and without the reflectors and take par readings on the sand bed. DM me if that would be helpful and I can do it this weekend.

Yeah that would be great! Send that joining metal strip over when you can and that's all I need!
