Hey Everyone,

Thanks in advance.

I just ordered a 96x24x30 Planet aquarium tank
Plan to do Fish only.. some rare big fish ..

What lighting should i go with ?

thanks!

I keep it extremely simple and light my 60" 150 gallon FOWLR with two 12" Blade Grows, on the L stands, resting on the tank's glass. I tend to run them a a lower power for about 12-13 hours a day, and by doing so it keeps the algae away.

Sorry to be dumb, but is your tank just rather dark on the edges or is the outside light + spread from bar sufficient?

In the 5' span I have (from left edge of the tank to right) edge of the tank) 1 open foot, 1 foot of Blade, 1 open foot between lights, 1 foot of Blade, 1 open foot. (Clearly I could add a third Blade, but I don't think I need it.)

As you know, for your 96" tank you might try longer Blades-- 21", 36", etc.

Oops, missed that you have two blades.

Nice fish!

Depends on what you want the overall look to be.

I'd lean to more shallow/daylight look but I'm not you..
2 charts .. is shoot for more in- between.
Intensity isn't as important as color balance here. Granted with some color channels you can tweak it.

It really doesn't matter much in a FOWLR. Light it so it looks the way you want it to look. You don't have any coral, so no worries about how much or how little blue you put in the mix.

Secondly...you need to define a few more parameters.
Like do you want effects?
Any particular color you favor?
Hanging lights?
On tank mounts?
Got a budget?
Plan for expansion into corals?

Even cheap freshwater lights tweaked into the blue a bit is a possible choice.
Rgb fixtures tend to be in the actual 10000k ish range at maximum.
Color rendering ( emulating real colors) range from the 70s to 90's of daylight (100 being reproducing natural color at 6500k- ish).

For " fun" see #226. Sort of a color primer .
