Is fresh newly mixed saltwater best to use for large water changes? Or mix up new water outside add a little old tank water and let grow in the sun for two days?

Alright I’m starting this experiment. Today I made sure all the fish are well fed and tonight I will use some reef-roids. I’m going to start a three day blackout and DE filters tomorrow. I have an order of Garf Grunge that should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. The day the grunge shows up I will change 90 gallons that I have mixed up now with one gallon of old tank water in each water bin I’ll continue running the mixing pumps uncovered. I’m not going to disturb the sand or anything just drain and fill. I’m going to move all the macros to the 55 gallon bug tank. Did I miss anything or should this plan work?

Should I be concerned about one of the three new water bins got really hot? I was using a everbilt sump pump to keep it mixed up and this morning 98 degrees and the pump has white dust on it. The other two have been mixing with standard aquarium pumps.

Jon the updates are looking great, you’re getting to experiment with several active approaches, temp variances, total access risks or benefits, nice thread p 10

I don’t mind experimenting on the 55 or any new outside stuff but it’s about to get serious. I just ordered a water box 6025 to replace my DT.

i somehow feel with confidence that your transfer over will go ok heh. You and musk could pack this reef, send it to mars and back, and it would reassemble just fine

The new tank will be a rip clean breeze. No overflow built in, just a big glass box, all plumbing and parts will be easily ripped apart for cleaning.
