Hello. I’ve been looking to upgrade my tank size and found a 15 yr old 210 gallon that was supposed to have been made by glass cages. It is priced very well I think. They have been using it as freshwater and it is not drilled. And it currently has fish in it. They are moving and it does not fit the new home space.
I guess my concern is how long is even a quality made tank good for? I would want to drill it and I just don’t want to buy a big tank if it is at the end of it’s expected life. Thanks!

How can I help? Lets see some pictures
I’ll be honest, I have only seen the ad and spoke with them in messenger. The tank is 15 yrs old and is 7’x 2’ and 25” tall. It has a center brace on the top and looks like clear silicone in corners.

The price is awesome and I am first in line but have to wait on their house to close and then they are moving the livestock out of the tank. I am an hour drive away.
my biggest concerns are what is the life expectancy of a well maintained custom built tank? If it’s 30 yrs I’m golden!;)

The second concern was can the glass be drilled but it looks like glass cages does not use tempered glass so that’s good.

I guess that’s really all I got. I just do not want a busted seam a year later due to age!

Be sure to check for scratches.

It always seems to me that it is worse when a tank has been used then sat dry for awhile somewhere... the fact that it still has water in it would be a positive to me.

Is the price good enough that you would not mind resealing it if needed?

I think not being able to see it in person makes it a little more hard to judge the tank and its worth.

I agree. I asked about scratches, and it does still have livestock in it. They said it has never leaked. As for price, it’s under 700. I feel that’s a super deal as long as the average life expectancy is not past. I’ve never resealed any tank but not completely opposed to it. I just want quality.

@Joe Glass Cages I received a few pictures of the tank this morning and was hoping to get your thoughts. The upper trim on the rear looks to only be on center section? Is this normal? Do you see anything showing red flags? Thanks so much for your thoughts!

So does anyone have an idea on if the trim missing on the upper rear sections is normal?
Also, I currently have a waterbox 65.4 aio. It is starfire glass. Im thinking this 210 is likely normal glass. I know side by side I’d see the difference but in all honesty do you think it would stand out as noticeable in its own area? I would apply black vinyl to the back.

does look like a glass cages tank from some time ago. Looks like ok from the pictures. some wear.

I dont believe there is any starphire on the tank. just looking at those pictures.

Hope that helps.

Thank you. Does that silicone look like algae is between it and glass or just noticeable because it is clear?
The owner is going to either offer it to me for purchase or trade it to someone else for a smaller tank. They are closing on a new house and this one won’t fit. Hopefully I’ll have a chance at it this week.
