150 DD Cube

I just picked up a Marineland 150 DD cube. I currently have a 60 gallon cube tank. Came with an ATB skimmer and a ton of other stuff. I have several boxes to sort through. Caught a good deal on a guy getting out of the hobby. I will be starting a build thread for this tank shortly. It won't move very fast but plan to have the tank up and running within a few months. Enough with the talk here are some pictures!

Thoughts on tank placement? I can get too both doors on the sides with plenty of room to work. My wife seems to think we should turn the tank and actually put it all the way in the corner. What do you all think?

Well....

Being in the corner makes it a little of a challenge to reach the center of the back of the tank, but makes sense in my living room to allow for better viewing from the couch and less likelihood of foot traffic banging the corner. I left my tank against each of these walls and in the corner for a couple days just to get an idea of viewability and how much of an obstruction it would be.

Pardon the disarray, but over a year of poor conditions in a stock tank made for a big nutrient problem (as well as mass algae issue) that I'm addressing with Kent Tech M, LACL, vinegar, and manual scrubbing. I refuse to redo my scape until I believe I won't have to scrub it again.

The side access panels need a little room to come off, so make sure the stand is still an inch or two from the wall.

Ok, thanks. I think I'll let it set here a few days and then decide. Very nice tank btw. Having a little trouble getting to the center of the back wall is a worry but if I put the tank all the way into the corner I would have trouble reaching the overflow as it would be clear across the tank.

This is how she would like the tank to sit. As far as maintenance I think it would be a nightmare.

Really nice tank, congrats.

My recommendation would be, exploit three side views of the tank, the more visible real state you have the more you'll enjoy your system.

Recommended sump water depth for that skimmer is: 6" to 8"

I think both ways have advantages. Where do you mainly sit in the room? I would prefer to look at a flat side and not a corner. If you put if her way but pull it 2 feet from the one wall you have 3 sides of viewing.

I have my 140 sitting at an angle in a corner of my living room and it is 12" away from the wall at the back corners. Looking back, I am so glad I did it this way. I can actually walk behind the tank and access all of my electronics, which are mounted on the back of my canopy, or the back of the stand. Also room back there for a 20 gallon ATO reservoir and my chiller. It made a tiny "fish room" behind the tank.

Thanks for all the kinds words and advice! This is a new house and the only room we haven't put furniture in yet for the most part. So, we can kinda lay the furniture out to suit the tank! Or at least that was my thought [emoji23] she doesn't yet agree! Ever since I cut a hole through the wall for the other tank she has been a little reluctant to say the least!

I plan to mount all the electronics in the front of the cabinet as today I sectioned it off from the back and fabbed up a small shelf that I'll mount for dry foods, etc.

This tank was an unplanned purchase and will not go together in a hurry. I have a ton of questions. First thing I need to address is lighting at this point so what should I go with? I'm willing to spend some money but not looking to go overboard. Any suggestions?
