Hello everyone, thought I would contribute to the hive mind. I have a 40x36x24 saltwater tank. It has been through many revisions and I screw up alot. So if you'd like to see alot of trial and error, with emphasis on the error you are in the right place.

I originally set it up for the first time in 2014. It has lived through high nutrients, low nutrients, vermitid snails and most recently dinos.

I run 2 kessil a360s in a hybrid 36in ati t5 fixture. I dose kalk via doser and supplement with brs 2 part + tropic marin trace additives. I started with a vertex 180i skimmer which I dispise and replaced with an older aqua-c injection type skimmer which I love.

I have a 125 gallon aquarium I placed baffles in myself being used as a sump. I house chaeto, which in all honesty is the healthiest thing about my tank. I can grow algea very successfully.

I recently added a 40 gallon breeder into the system, but it is just full of water at the moment as I havmt decided the final direction to go with it.

My parameters are ph of 8.1 to 8.3, sg 1.026, temp 78.5, alk 9dkh, calcium 500, mag 1480. My nutrients at the moment are nitrate 3ppm and phosphate is .08. I have a trident and use hannah ultra low phosphate checker. The nitrate test is red sea.

Livestock consists of my blue hippo tang, which started out about the size of a quarter. A yellow watchman goby that lived through multiple tanks and moves and is the Oldman of tank. He has been with me since 2010. I have 2 engineer gobies, one fairy wrasse and 2 anthias.

I have a good size cleaner crew, snails of all different t sorts and crabs, one cleaner shrimp and a coral banded shrimp.

As far as Corals I have some larger leather mushrooms, some various mushrooms and some zoanthids. I tried to dip my toes in the water with some various lps and sps, I have a few survivors but nothing flourished....

I will post some pictures and try to be more descriptive as I go.

Added a light hood to the 40 gallon, 16in off the water. It has two reefbreeders strip lights, one actinic and one blue/actinic. I also have two kessil 360w until the 24in photon comes in.

Pretty much 60ish par across the whole tank from just the strip lights.

160 With the kessils. They are old and if I turn them up past 50% they get hot and cut out.

The strip lights really have that "pop". Looking forward to putting something in.

Great looking setup. I like your laboratory behind the tank. Looks like mine. Lol. Welcome to R2R! I am thinking about picking up a couple reefbreeders strip lights to compliment my t5.

Thanks, I'm not the best about policing my area after I get done tinkering so it's nice to be able to shut the door and pick it up tommarrow!

I am pretty impressed with the strips. I moved some gsp up from the fuge this afternoon and it looks bright with a capital B. I'll take some photos tommarrow with the dslr and see if I can get the white balance right.

They put out more par than what I thought they would, pretty nice for the price. I bought the dimmer, but havnt installed it and not sure I really need it.

Its been awhile, I'm bad at remembering to update. Not much new in the display, except for a new magnetic frag rack. Everything has shown growth although not dramatic. The mushroom has been angry and retracted, im hoping its just shedding again but we will see. I added 600more watts of heater and another inkbird to try to keep the temp swing lower. It was about 1.5F over 24 hours.
