I have installed the 16" Shadow overflow on my peninsula style tank.
I notice that very quickly salt is creeping from the outer box, coming through the lid.
The salt builds up and falls down if not cleaned regularly.

I checked for proper closing and all seems to be ok.
What do you recommend to avoid this?

I run a 80W Royal Exclusiv pump at 50% only which should be less than half of the capacity of the overflow.

Any recommendations?

@Janci you can use some plumbers silicone grease around the lip of the lid and it should help with it. That's a lot of salt creep. Haven't seen one creep like that.

That is the salt over only 3 days.
It is all around the lid so the side between the outside overflow box and the glass is hard to get by.

I will try to fit a small O-ring cord in the lid as I prefer not to use silicon grease. It will get washed away anyway.
Might be a solution to make the inner rim of the lid a little longer or use a rubber seal.

Shoot me a PM as I have some O-ring Cord that you could try and see if that works for you.

Hi Rick, no worries. I was just checking if there was an easy solution.
Also it would be a waste to send o-ring half way aroud the globe. ;Stop

I see it build up occasionally, but not nearly to that degree or across the entire length. I wonder if the edge of the lid nearest to the tank is a tight fit between the rim and the overflow box, which might cause the other side to pinch up and separate a bit.

Mine is completely closed and sealed and just like the op stayed behind the overflow box has all types of salt creep along with the box itself when I get a picture I'll post it up

I will have some tomorrow to get a picture of.
Rick

I can use a picture of that seal as my o-ring solution is not 100%.
TIA

@Janci

I found some 1/16" cord that will work. It still requires a small amount of silicone grease to hold it in place, but seems to fit the best.
