2 x 200W sufficient for 200G?

Hello,

Upgrading from a 50 to a 200G system total volume.

Are 2 x hygger Titanium Tube 200W sufficient or should I really go with 2 x 300W?

Room temp at the coldest is 70F at night... will this be sufficient?

which seems silly to me
I use 900 watts of Eheim Jagers on my 400 gallon system. I have 4 on an Inkbird

I dont see a 300watt option for the Hygger.

BRS has a 300watt option for their titanium heaters
  • 300W - up to 100 Gallon Aquariums
  • 600W - up to 200 Gallon Aquariums

I have no idea why they are so underrated

Yeah.... I was looking at the 2 x 300 from BRS - but they seem expensive.. I already have the 2 x 200W hyggers.. so was wondering if that was sufficient without expending the extra $$$ :/ ....

They say they aren't and they make them.
 
I run 2x 200s on a 180 with a 75 sump. They rarely run with the house at 70 degrees 24/7.

Once the tank was up, going and heated, the pumps, powerheads, pump for reactors, uv and all of that stuff adds heat on its own. The rocks also act as a buffer to hold heat in the tank.

I do have extra heaters if needed, but those are for if the heat goes out in the winter.

I can say that bigger will not hurt, as long as on a controller, but if your house temp stays stable once you get the tank to temp it should hold it with minimal intervention from the heaters. As in they shouldn’t run 24/7.

Disclaimer: surface agitation of water can reduce temps as well, so if you are going to have a rolling tide up top, then you may need more wattage to account for the water trying to reach equilibrium with the surrounding air.

Excellent - I will give the 2 x 200W a go then -- I do have another heater in my mixing station.. so in case of an emergency I can throw that one in there...

I use 2 x 500w finnex on an inkbird then to the Apex for redundancy. Tank is 240 with about 40g sump.
