20g Lagoon Reef Tank General Questions

Hello all, first post here on R2R! I love this site because it almost always answers any questions I have. So I thought I’d give it a try with questions directing towards my setup.

First off I have a 20g long Innovative Marine Lagoon. It’s been up for about a month. I recently upgraded from a 13.5g aquatop (Huge improvement). It was up for about 8 months.

I dealt with a lot of algae problems in my 13.5 due to no ability to run a skimmer in the rear chamber. I used filter floss, manual cleaning, COC and of course water changes for cleaning.

I transferred 2 larger and one smaller rocks from my previous aquarium to my new one. They were and still are fairly coated in a small layer of greenish algae.

I’ve noticed the algae start to heavily creep onto my large center rock in the tank. I have been very persistent on cleaning the glass, rock and other areas. But every day it comes back as it was the previous day.

I just added the fleece roller less than a week ago and the skimmer was Installed and running yesterday. I turned the flow up to min 46% and max 67%, just enough to not blow around sand.

I will note all the zoas and gsp(on the back glass) in the tank are closed but have slowly been opening, I’ve noticed a small amount of algae on top of them but I lightly brush it off as I see it get bad.

I have the same tank-- but no skimmer, no roller. Yours is actually looking pretty good at this stage. Mine is just finally hitting its stride (and passing all sorts of algae problems) at about the 1-year mark. Hang in there, and ride out the uglies.

Tank looks great! I run a fluval 13 (2 years old) with just a bit of filter floss as filtration.. along with biomedia..

And a im 50 lagoon (thats only a few months old) but has 3 fish.. along with a cleaner shrimp and clean up crew and a gaggle of frags.. and still only a filter sock and bit of filter Floss in the media caddy that the tank comes with..
