I started to build last night.
I cut 7" off my basement workbench and added the 2 side pieces. I used wood glue and put 2" screws every 2 inches.
It was actually very strong feeling when i was done. Im going to add the end pieces tonight and then make the overflow cutout and box.

Looking good so far. I, like @dantimdad , favor the closed loop idea for this application. Looking forward to updates!

That’s a lot of work building those tanks

Ever thought of just using those 4x4 horticulture trays you get at marijuana grow outlets?

I’m in a town of about 70K

And we have couple hydro pot stores to buy this stuff. I bought a 4x4 tray for wet darkroom photography. I suppose Utah or Alabama probably don't have local hydro stores, I figured most of the country does.

I'm cool with that.

I used 1.5" rigid Styrofoam from home depot. I wanted to seperate the 2 sheets of plywood so it would be stiffer when i screwed it all together and let me tell you its very very stiff. I was going to add a 2x4 lip around the top but it doesn't need it and i like the rimless look.

Im really not sure how much pond shield i need so i got 1 1.5-quart kit in white. If i need more ill order it from amazon and it comes next day.
