I'm aware. I'm not 100% sold on it yet I may stick with possum wrasse originally. The problem? So MANY choices. I'm really trying to go for fish I've not owned which makes it a bit tougher. All in time I guess.

Lol, I haven't had a flame before. It's been about the only pygmy angel I haven't had. Yes, there is a chance it will eat me corals. I know others that have been on the luckier side of that. So I say, "Why not?"

Nice start! I have a 29 biocube also...my first tank. I have a cherub Pygmy angel and so far he's doing great... No nipping of corals...I've had him for over a month now. Looking forward to seeing how you stock your tank and any other mods.

Would you mind describing the purpose of the thing you made with the container and tubes? I have never seen one of these.

Thanks

Thanks! I've always had bigger tanks, so this small AIO is new to me. I've had a Cherub before, loved it!

Thanks for asking, Spendly. That is an algae scrubber. I've seen them used on larger setups. The purpose is to grow algae on the screen, rather than let it grow all over the tank. I'm curious as to how it will fair in a much smaller tank.

Weird enough, I had a dream about having one. It started blinking blue. I think I won't get it. Lol. I'm really drawn to the ReefBreeders Photon 16.

There is also a very tiny green patch on a top rock I can't photograph. This is day 20 of cycle. So I'd say this occured 3 days ago or so.

Tested just now. I believe she's ready! I'm going to see if nitrates increase any further, but I think she's done. I can't test phosphate, but I don't think there's much and from I understand testing for it is near pointless as test kits aren't reliable. I could be wrong in my assessment.

  • Ammonia: 0.01
  • Nitrite: 0
  • Nitrate: 2-5
  • pH: 8.0
Yeah buddy! My current to do list:

  1. Halimeda, sea grass, perhaps mangroves, red gracilaria, and various other macros. I'm going to add them to the display and I think it should go rather nicely. I'm also thinking about waiting a little longer. The cycle of life isn't quite complete. The algae growth is next.
  2. Currently the tank is too clean for any sort of CUC.
  3. Growth light for DIY ATS project.
  4. LEDs
  5. Corals/fish, below are sample pics of the false percs I would like to see in the tank.
Unfortunately, it's going to take a bit while longer. Mr. Jeep just recently needed repair and budgeting does have it set backs.

Thanks for looking!

I posted my thoughts. For me, the nakeds and misbars aren't that far fetched than what we would see in the wild. I've had 3 pairs of clowns in my tank keeping lifetime. They were all regular. I'm not to the point to where I like the crazy bizarro clowns, yet. So you won't see anything too crazy.

dude! status?!

you growin algae yet? :D

seriously considering adding an upflow scrubber to a chamber in the rear of my nano now. the water in that chamber already flows "up" - don't think i'd even need the airline and have to deal with the resulting salt creep.

First addition

Went to my LF, seen this guy, thought what a nice speciman. Little bigger was swimming about and was hiding between some xenias when he caught my eye. Also bought a conch and 3 ceriths for now.

So I got home and curiousity got the better of me. I checked the salinity of the LFS water... 1.038! Holy bonkers! Right now all of them are being drip acclimated.

How are you checking their salinity? Could be that your device is off, which would skew your results! Be careful!

Refractometer. I checked and triple checked my device with 2 different sources of ro. One was dasani the other was my ro/di used for calibrations as well as calibration fluid. So no it wasn't off.

Today I received some macros. Tiny bit concerned they aren't going to make it because of the climate. I'm hoping everything does well and grows nicely. I plan eventually plan on getting shave brush, codium, shoal grass roots, and possibly mangroves.
First my lights need to come in and the coral buying process begins!

Ok, update time!

Today bought a Kessil A120, ocean blue. I really liked the sky blue, but I was shown a demo of a red acan and under the sky light, it looked brown. Sad. So I had to go with the ocean blue. The reason for the Kessil, ReefBreeders, ReefRadiance, and another were out of stock for lights and wouldn't get them for weeks. So I was told. Radions are too expensive in my opinion and come across too gimicky. Not interested. But to each his own.

So my updates:
Kessil A120 Ocean Blue
Eibli Angel
Red and Green Monti Cap frag
Orange Sponge "tree", more like a stick, but still
Sunrise Dottyback
5" or so coralline and halimeda encrusted conch shell (Really cool looking!)
9-12" Tonga branch, in hindsight was a bit much for the 29, but I made it work and it looks awesome me thinks
Snails...
I think that's it.

Pics will follow at some point. I had to make a 4 hour trip to and fro, acclimate, fix tank, and so forth and so on. I'm exhausted.
