I have 3 juvenile oscillaris clownfish that were introduced to my aquarium a few months ago. Over the last few weeks, I’ve added 3 anemones.
Is there a way to get them to host?

I had an anemone in my tank for around a year and my clowns barely showed any interest in it. They liked my thermometer though.

I have a Picasso clown and an Ocellaris clown and they were in my tank for over a year with a bubble tip nem sitting right next to them. Finally just over a year and the male, which is the Picasso got into it, and now he stays right there.

What kind of nems are they?

Ocellaris/ Percula clowns are more picky IME.

I have had luck in the past leaning my iPad up against the tank and playing a video of clowns in a nem on repeat. I did this for a couple of hours and it’s worked 2x for me.

I've had a large anemone and a pair of clown fish for 2 years. After a year, the smaller one started to go into the anemone. Shortly afterwards I upgraded to a larger tank and the smaller one no longer wanted to hang out in the anemone. Often they will swim in front of it staring at it..... (notice my profile pic) They seem to prefer to host around my return nozzles.

Do you have an acclimation box recommendation?
Also, I have attempted to pick up my anemones and can’t seem to get them to release. I’m concerned about injuring the foot.
Octo aquatics has the best acclimation boxes. To get them to release the foot take the rock that it’s on out of the water and hang the nem upside down

Thank you! I can’t remove the rocks they’re on. They latched on to the base rocks under the entire live rock structure. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Try tongue depressors or credit cards. Very delicate

What kind of nem? Not all nems are hosts for clownfish. Ocs don't naturally host all the clown hosting nems either. So sometimes it takes them a really long time to figure out they can host in it. As an example, I have a pair of ocs for 2 years now that would rather host a favia then the 6 BTAs that surround it.

Just wait.

They will host eventually. I have a example that took about 2 years. Mine was F999 so didn't have a clue what a Nem was.

After 2 years, 2 BTA's and now 3 Carpet anemones... they finally know what Nems are and host them.

Slowly they show their natural behaviour.

Give it a Year. They will live for many.. so a year is nothing.

I have 14 rbta's and clowns. iMO. Leave nems wherever they are, the clowns figure it out. It takes a bit. Patience. Lol

Folk teallly need to understand who is and who ain't the host. Fish aint the host!
Not aimed at opening poster but its like reading infant school sometimes here.
Ive had clowns for over a decade, maybe 50 of them raised but only about a third liked the anenomes, the others liked rocks, ornaments, heaters, thermometers the lot :) let them chill and raise kiss whereever they wish to :)
