Hey everyone,
I wanted to finally start a proper build thread to document my 310-gallon reef system. This tank has been a dream project of mine, and I thought it would be fun to share the setup, equipment, livestock plans, and challenges along the way. Hopefully this thread can also help others planning a large reef.
Display Tank: 60" x 48" x 20" (~240 gallons)
Sump: ~71.5 gallons
Total Water Volume: ~311 gallons
The tank is designed to maximize swimming space for tangs and wrasses while giving plenty of surface area for SPS colonies.
Filtration & Equipment
-Red Sea 1200 Roller Mat
-Octopus 220 INT Protein Skimmer (air intake plumbed outside)
-57W UV Sterilizer running ~1000–1100 GPH
-Calcium Reactor
-4x Radion XR30w Pro G4 on the display
-1x Radion XR30w Pro G4 on the sump in the frag section
-Return Pump: Ecotech Vectra L2
-Flow: 2x Ecotech MP40 + 2x Sicce XStream SDC
-neptune apex and trident
I’m also considering adding Orphek OR3 Blue Plus or Reef Brite XHO Blue to bring out even more color.
And also considering adding Maxspect Gyre XF330 Cloud Edition - Double Package for extra flow
Water Parameters
I try to keep parameters stable and within SPS friendly ranges:
Alkalinity: 8 – 8.3 dKH
Calcium: 430 – 440 ppm
Magnesium: 1350 – 1400 ppm
Nitrate: 5 – 10 ppm
Phosphate: 0.04 to 0.06
Livestock Plan
Current
Tangs: Blue Hippo, Blonde Naso, Chocolat, Blue atlantic,
Wrasses: Leopard, Cleaner, McCosker’s, Naoko, Mystery, Pintail, Possum
4x Clown fish, long nose hawkfish, Midas Blenny, Pair mandarin, Royal gramma,
planned stocking
Tang:White Tail Bristletooth,Yellow, Purple, Gen.
Wrasse: Radiant , Yellow and purple, Yellow tail tamarin, Choat red.
Flame angle and coral beauty
And big maybe ** achile tang and one spot foxface
That’s where the system is at today. It’s definitely still a work in progress, but I’m excited to share the journey and track the progress of this reef. I’ll keep updating as corals settle in, fish move through QT, and I add more gear.
If you’d like to see more day-to-day updates, pics, and videos of the tank, feel free to follow me on Instagram

Thanks for following along, and I’d love to hear any feedback, stocking advice, or suggestions from fellow reefers!
