Great news today. The 8ft tank I apparently bought on the Swiss equivalent of Ebay has been cancelled by the seller. So at least I am off the hook for close to 3k usd. As there is no right of cancellation here in Switzerland I was legally obligated to buy it unless the seller agrees to cancel the sale. So very nice of the lady to do so.
Wait, you had to pay 3k use to get something you will never get, or you got the money back.

I received an invoice with the surprise email that said I had bought the tank from the seller. I never initiated anything to buy the tank, so thought maybe my account had been hacked and had the platform check to see. There was nothing they could see. So under Swiss law I had bought the tank and was legally obligated to go through with the purchase. There is no right of recourse except to ask the seller to cancel the sale. But if she had wanted to she could of got a lawyer to force me to go through with the purchase as technically I had bought the tank. Crazy but its the way it is here with 2nd hand sales. Thankfully she did not as i said to her that i absolutely did not even have a way of picking it up, so it could of got very ugly, very quick. Why I was so happy to receive the message that she had cancelled the sale.

More stuff arriving today. Not sure I am putting a fish tank together or building a mortar range. The 63mm bulkheads are massive. 4 inches across at its widest point. 😂🤣😂PS thats it sitting on top of a 80mm x 80mm profile

Nice rocks but at $2800, I might even resort to committing some not-so-legal methods! Wow, that’s crazy! Hope the aquascape works out for you.

Looks like you got some huge dogs? ;)

Just the one these days. He turns two on Sunday. His name is Loki. He weighs around 85 pounds. So big for a golden retriever. First one i have ever had. Absolute teddy bear of a dog, but terrified of everything. No matter how much training. He is actually from North Carolina, I imported him from a breeder, and he had already had 800 hours of training. But he is just a big softie. I used to have a huge German Sheperd and a Bernese mountain dog back when i lived in Australia. But they were gone before i moved here.

I am 6 3 and he could stand on his back legs and look me in the eyes. Everything in this hobby is expensive as you would already now, but the cost of things here is just ridiculous. Its why i try to buy a lot of things in the EU as they are cheaper and I pay less tax on them. As Switzerland is not part of the EU. But the downside is I am very limited in the livestock I can buy as Switzerland do not let you buy any fish, coral or inverts outside of Switzerland without a license, so there is quite the monopoly, which comes with the usual crap prices that they can get away with.

More pictures, have been told it should be packed and sent to the shipping agent by the end of the week. Then the long wait for the boat to arrive. Glad its not my xmas present as the wrapping is a little average. Its funny the sump looks bigger than the main tank. I had a helluv of a fright when i first seen the photo of the sump before realised it was upside down. 🤪

So another update, I managed to get the lighting canopy up on the weekend on my own, which was an adventure in itself. So tested all the lights before I cable tied all the wiring etc before i suspended it. All was working fine. So of course as soon as i suspended it and turned them on it all went downhill. Was up to 0330 in the morning playing around with them on Saturday night, with no luck, with Bakbays help I managed to get them all going yesterday. So a big thank you to Bakbay. Had to reorder all of my plumbing as the supplier had still not sent it after a month, so had to buy directly in Switzerland whichever is never a good thing as it cost me 50% more for all of it. Anyway good news is the both the display tank and sump are packed and will be shipped this week.

Loving the build so far - the lighting system is a work of art and you will love it! Great job getting things installed by yourself. I had my son helped me throughout the build and he’s actually better than me, both brain and brawn! lol

I love your suspended canopy as mine is heavy and stack on top of the tank. So if I ever have to remove it for any reasons, it will take a village.

Great news on the tank & sump - this is the exciting part! :)

So as I said a few posts back I would let people know how the whole MYUS shipping service worked out. I ordered over 500usd worth of gear from BRS, which not only saved me a fortune but also got things that are not readily available in Switzerland, like Copper Power and other bits and pieces. So the whole thing quite smoothly although apparently I had not put my Suite number which acts as your customer number on the shipping address. However I checked what i have on record at BRS and it was correct. So with this little hiccup, it took a few extra days to arrive in my suite, where you can then organise the shipping to where you live. A few important points is to check the value that MYUS has estimated on the items in your package as they put down the value of the Marine Master test kit at its usual MSRP whereas I got it 150 less on sale at BRS. As obviously this amount will determine the amount you have to pay in customs and duty fees in your respective country. I used the cheapest shipping option and did not select for MYUS to deal with the custom fees etc, as Fedex will just invoice me anyway and is cheaper than paying extra fees. So for a 11.5lb or around 5kg shipment it was 66usd and arrived here at my front door in Switzerland in 6 days. And honestly even with the shipping customs and taxes, I saved close to 400usd than if I had of bought the items in Europe and Switzerland would of even been more. So for those of you in Europe with my first experience I would recommend MYUS to get some of the things that are difficult in Europe and also just to save some dollars, Euros, Francs or whatever currency you use. Hope this helps anyone that might of looked at this and wondered if it was worth it.
cheers
Jamie

So I think I am reliving a childhood trauma. I never had any Meccano when I was a kid, and this is the first time I have played with aluminium profiles, and I think I am addicted. I love this stuff and cant stop buying it. Added some more joists to the top of the stand for the display tank and also some underneath for the sump. Also got the Orpheks mounted up underneath in the sump. My driveway is being paved next week and my landscaper is taking delivery of the tanks when they arrive in a few months as he has a forklift, but he popped past today to confirm all was good to go and I had the chance to organise him and his guys to use there crane truck to lift the tanks in through a first floor window. So another stress out of the way. Still waiting for my second A400 to turn up which is annoying however at the price I got it I am happy to wait since I saved around 600usd off the rrp. So this next week I will run some new circuits downstairs to run the hole thing.

How will you arrange shipping from Grandview to your nation's port then to your tanks final destination?

Thanks I was an electrician for 40 years, and built three houses in that time myself, so had a bit of an advantage.
With regards to shipping it is all organised by Grandview and there shipping agent. It is delivered to where you want it, all you need to do is ensure you have a forklift to unload it. So I dont have a forklift and am having it dropped at a loca landscapers yard who will unload it for me, and then bring it to my house and use his crane truck to get it in through a first floor window. So as far as the logistics go getting it to where you want it, it has been very simple. All shipping, customs duties and whatever other taxes you might have were also included in there quote before I agreed to the build. It has been very easy to alter the initial design with them and has all been done over email and whatsapp. If you are interested in contacting them PM me and I can give you my contact at Grandview, who has been fantastic.
